10-20-10

Did a little bit of jumping today just because it was nice out and I wanted to see what my vert was like with fatigue and soreness from session 1.

I was still getting up really good, hand over the rim easily, grabbing with two hands easily, tennis ball dunk from vert easily. So I would say I was 29-30 and 34-35 which I'm really happy with.

Kept jumps to a minimum so I'm still gonna do session 2 later.

Can't wait until I peak again after session 3, I'm for sure gonna put out another video but can't decide what yet... dunks on 9'8, go for vertec pr's, or.... 10' dunk attempts. I'll probably do one then rest back up a day or two and do another one.

just got your text, how was session 2? good thing about the jumps, odd about the squats (based on your text).

lol, this is great im dying laughing at this. I can give you a good example of myself. last summer I increased my box jump from 44-46ish to 52 inches, effin' sweet right? yeah well in that same period my standing vertical only went from 23 to 25 ...fuck

8 inches vs 2 inches, big difference.. that's the thing, alot of box jumping is just:
- improved hip flexibility
- reduced inhibition specific to the movement

honestly i think the only thing i'd use a box for now is to ease the landing of a depth jump

depth jump, depth drop, standing on top of it and yelling "on top of the world mothrfu@#!$!@%r!@$!@"

:)

peace man

Yo, thinking of getting some of those zoom waffles, rekon i sould get the 7s for 45buks or 6's for 30 is there much difference, and what about the sizing, similar to a normal shoe?

not sure about the 7's, i have never worn a pair.. i'd go with the 6's for $30 for now, see how you like them.. some people hate them, some people love them, so i'd spend $30 for now on the 6's.. as far as shoe size, they run pretty much the same as any other nike shoe.. i wear 12 in nike bball shoes & 12 in waffles, both are the same fit.

Also do you think if i lost like 4-5kg of fat it would improve my jump much?

definitely... each 5 lb of fat lost, is about 1-1.5" gained on vert, as long as strength/fitness is maintained... so you'd definitely gain a few inches with 5kg fat loss, as long as you made sure you aren't losing strength while losing that fat.. so you're looking at a slower fat loss rather than really quick fat loss which can cost you some muscle.

peace man

I hate how people think all of his art is just random splashes. :-/

I remember hearing mention of a study which compared his paintings to randomly produced paintings by people, and Pollock's elicited very different emotional responses. I will have to look it up...

i think you actually pasted that to me once, that rings a bell.. some people just lack the ability to understand/comprehend/appreciate that form of art.

btw, i finally figured out how to auto-shrink large pictures that are too big and cause that annoying scrollbar :D it should be working in this thread.. alot of those pictures were way too big for the thread, now they fit. word!@$

bw = 150.4 <-- bam!$!@$
soreness = hamstrings
aches/injuries = not much
fatigue = high surprisingly

workout: strenf
- edit: light tuck jumps x 3, prolly ten sets, for warmup
- half squat singles: 225 lb (1.5xBW) @ 15 singles, i probably have alot more in me, just don't wanna overdo squat right now, relying more on volume of singles instead of max intensity..
- bar-dips: BW @ 1 x 5, 5 x 7, 1 x 8

working on a squat video for fun, just took footage from the squat session for no reason, just to make a vid... coming out pretty cool.. was going to be done now but i got some nice new ideas 4 it.

was planning on dunking thursday but, schedule got wrecked so, friday it is, hopefully eddie can go.

peace !

based on your experience how much of the vj do you feel comes from the glutes? hwo much from quads? how much from other muscles?

well i've always said vj is quad/calf/glute dominant, sure hamstrings are important, but the former muscle groups play a much larger role in vertical displacement.. quads/glute/calf are all equally important, i cant give a percentage or anything.. people downplay the calfs but really, the calf/achilles provides so much energy/force production at triple extension, for example, i can pogo hop pretty high which is hardly any knee bend, that is primarily a calf/quad/glute movement.

quads technically need to be the strongest because of the plant, if they are weak, you collapse in the plant.. so quad strength is major, generally they are easy to strengthen though so it's usually no one's concern.

at the end of my dunk sessions, i am nearly always achy in my quads/calfs, only rarely in my hamstrings..

other than that, powerful arm swing becomes important.. it can add alot to the jump by producing a stronger triple extension.

peace

EDIT: regardless, everything needs to be strong (explosively & reactively): quads, calfs, glutes, hamstrings, lats/ delts/ chest/ core

click on second link, guy has video doing just that

ah.. it wouldn't load earlier, so i didn't get to see that.. nice vid, from what i see, everything looks exactly the same.. in fact the black kid who wore them, his runup was better in RVJ & on the dunk attempts in normal shoes.. his run up got all whack in the other shoes, so who knows what that was about..

i didn't see any difference.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6oiADjOdFg

my vid paused as it was downloading, right as the kick landed on his chin.. then finished.

ridiculous ko that looks lethal.
