tons of studies have correlated leg strength improvement via squatting to vert gains etc.. their are old russian sports stats and stuff like that, which give details about percentiles on various performance markers, by age etc.. can't find them though. There hasn't really been any worldwide studies on it though, from what I've seen. All you can go on really is small sample sizes, use those averages/stats.
here's a question from Nizar to Prof. Verkhoshansky:
Quote
Dear Professor Dr. Verkhoshansky,
I'm interested in the average relative strength numbers of elite level highjumpers in the squat exercise. Also, do these high jumpers ever reach relative strength levels that don't allow for further transfer to the high jump?
Is there a general guideline derived from practice on how much relative strength is enough for athletes interested in maximizing vertical jump height? I'm not only asking about jump height off a single leg like in the highjump, but also about vertical jump height from a standing start or from a run with both feet.
Yours respectfully, Nizar Abu-Hamdeh Vienna, Austria
you'd probably have to use a normal distribution curve to find what percentile you are in. Assuming jumping is normally distributed. Find the median. do some research and calculate the standard deviation of a decent sample on a calculator. Then calculate how many standard deviations away desired vert jump number is from median. (zscore) Then find a normal distribution table and find the percentile that matches up with your z score.
welcome to the forum man, i liked the new vid, the windmills were sick & that jump at the beginning was very impressive.. like we talked about in that other thread, would be interesting to see some max height tomohawk/windmill/power dunks from lob, i'm guessing you could land some ridiculous footage off lob.
you doing anything other than basketball/dunking/jumping for your vert?
I don't do dunks off lobs much becuz I'm just not good at throwing them. I know for most dunkers its easier to make dunks off a lob but not for me...idk it's weird.
ya lobs can be tough, I feel that having an extremely pumped up bball really helps, especially on indoor courts where the bball's hit the wood & die. Once you have the timing down it's pretty easy, and for myself at least, it definitely helps me get up a little higher.

I'm sure if I mastered it it would open a lot of doors
ya it would, you're landing some nice stuff off dribble, but you get up way higher with full arm swing.
Yup , that jump , its insanely high , ~42'' or more , legit , word!
DAMN , i just checked his account, he removed all the old vids! That's a real loss to the dunking youtube community!!!
NOT kidding , those vids and comment battles were epic...
lmao tell me about it, i still have those vids too i just made them private lol but i can put them back up if you want. Just curious, who are you and wats ur youtube username? I wonder if you were one of the seemingly hundreds of ppl i used to talk shit to.

By the way to everyone here I'm not here to start shit or anything,
ya didn't expect you were

I know i did a lot of stupid shit when i was younger but i'm different now
that goes without saying, for every human
you don't do much max height dunks from lob, but i imagine they would look insane given the height of that jump in the pic/beginning of that vid.. flying on that jump
So how high is the backboard? Looks damn high and you got your forehead there , awesome!
dno man haha... i mean, i'd imagine the pad is a little lower, and the actual bottom of the backboard would be 9' i'm guessing....
not sure though man.. im gonna do some head height jumps on this other ~9' sign i jumped on last session, at that shopping center, will vid tape friday probably.. should be fun.. gonna try and knock it off the chains.

Also , that dude wears a backpack and yet he is so explosive soaring to the rim , WTF ?!?!?!
haahaha ya, that's just swag.. he trying to show off some swag ballin` with a backpack..
funny
he was good, so was that kid who made the other 3/layup.. they both tried dunking and failed, but they got up kind of nice..
There is something a little sick about all of that haha. But I'm right with you. Make it fucken happen man
ya i agree, hahaha.. people tonight must have thought I was insane, just jumping and hitting head on backboard pad WHILE they were playing half court.... i time it well though, I don't get in the way.

The jumps are looking pretty damn high btw. No lob to chase either so that's pretty promising. Good stuff.
thanks man.. ya some of them do look pretty high, not sure exactly how high, but I know I could have gotten higher had I been in my rhythm without little 5 year old's smacking my tripod/camera...
strained my left thumb really bad on that landing from my hand-height jump in the vid, second clip, that hand that hits the ground, the thumb bent back weird.. lool.. hurting.
jumping got massively derailed.. poured all day... all outdoor courts soaked.. had to goto outdoor court with roof, which is always packed, and, it didn't disappoint, completely packed..... both ends of court, kids everywhere.
workout: jumps - dno had some alright ones, sporadic jumps, couldn't do my thing, hit my head on the backboard pad a bunch of times, a few times coming down, felt awesome, was fun..
workout #2: strenf, i'm becoming a high rep addict again, but whatever, it's fun.. - half squat: 225 x 5, 5, 5, 5 - S1: db row: 60 @ 15, 16, 23, 20, - S1: half squat: 135 @ 15, 20, 21, 20 <-- glutes/hams DYING, disappointed with myself though, i should be hitting 30 every set.. at least.. with 135.
last jump is pretty sick........ pause the first & last jump a few times in the slowmo, watch my head smack that shit, i dno, i find it funny.. feels cool.. also, check the people playing dice in the upper left on my first head2backbaord jump.
some pics from tonight, went bad, i mean, it rained everywhere so i had to goto the outdoor roof'd court, which is always packed, so i had to get jumps in after a game and then while the game was going on eh... bleh.. other court had some young kid bball practice going on, then from 8:45 to 9pm (lights off) they just stood there on the court giving their little motivational speeches, while other people could have been using the court.. bums.
hit my head on that backboard pad pretty hard on this first pic..
bad reach pic, i mean, i just walked by trying to reach up, lameness.
