Yeah-- I'm working on it though, it's getting better slowly, so that's always good.

And goals are to have a 40+ vertical, the biggest thing with me is I don't have a lot of natural strength.

Same here, I'm naturally pretty weak, but naturally I'm pretty fast and explosive haha

Sucks about the scoliosis.  Regardless of that, your stats are pretty nice.  Nice vertical.  Make sure you start a journal and what are your goals?

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Ankle stiffness and jumping
« on: August 13, 2011, 03:29:44 pm »
I always hear the stiffer the ankles, the higher you'll jump?  I always heard/read this, but never quite bothered to really understand this.

What is ankle stiffness and how do you tell if your ankles have good stiffness or not?

How can you stiffen up your ankles if there not that stiff?

Does this really improve athleticism/vert?

Thanks.

Adarq, can the ground surface be a factor in getting shin splints?  When I do my plyo sessions consisting of sprints/SL bounds/depth jumpd/pogos, I don't get shin splints if I do it in a indoor bball gym, but I get them whenever I do them on outdoor turf.  Can that be the reason?

From 415lbs to about 375lbs now. I'm sure my relative went up by like 0.05 but I wanted more than that.

However, I'm looking to bounce back really hard and pack on muscle and strength when I get back. My squat should be back up to 415 at around 195 or 200 pounds instead of 210 pounds.

I would be interested in your VJ performance with decreased bw and same relative strength. I would expect your SVJ to be the same, not sure about RVJ though. Might be that because of its reactive nature (vs. nearly purely power output) your RVJ will actually profit from the decreased bw alone, maybe not though. Would be interesting to know, you should test that for us to learn :).

Good luck with it!

This is something I would be curious to find out as well

Basketball / Re: Juggling as Training?

If you wanna get better at basketball, practice basketball, not juggling  :uhhhfacepalm:

People these days always looking for convenient easy methods and convince themselves it'll work because it's simpler.

Well I don't mind it too much. To each his own, though. At least your respectful to me unlike many douchebags in America...

Our country is indeed full of douchebags, just like every other country.

There will always be someone who criticizes.  There is no ONE RIGHT WAY.  Everybody is different and different methods work differently for different people.  As you train, just like everybody else out there, you will start to learn on your own what works best for YOU and what you prefer to do.

Holy SHIT, any of the suggestions anyone gave will give you results.  You can make up your own routine and get results.  It's not some crazy science where you have to get the EXACT CORRECT WORKOUT ROUTINE, and if you follow it you will get results and if you don't, you will not get any results.

You want hypertrophy?  You wanna gain lean muscle mass and gain some weight?  Lift heavy, get enough volume, progressively overload, give enough time for recover, and eat a lot.

I realize Kelly B is very knowledgable and knows his shit, but this ain't rocket science.  Please do not create a poll.  I don't care if Kelly B is the creator of the vertical jump bible, or if LBSS gave u a workout, or if Steven Miller backed it up, just go work out.  You can literally do 3 exercises - bench press, barbell rows, full squats, and do them heavy with good amount of volume, and provided you're eating enough food/protein, you will hypertrophy.

You started this thread how long ago, and you're still not decided on a workout routine?  You're not trying to figure out the purpose of life here.  It's just lifting weights to get bigger.

Just get to work man.  And eat a lot while you're doing it.
