remember when i had some dunk swag... ? hmm.. seems like farm swag is building. eek. could get srs. lmao.

Hey mayn

I'm thinking of doing some farming myself, I see the amount of vegetables we need daily I thought why not have some grown in the backyard and save some money especially during the current crisis.

how would you tackle a garden with high growing grass and weed to a suitable growing bed to all mud capable of growing.

any tips on growing vegetables such as compost, fertilizer or other things I should use and to protect it from worms, insects or animals eating them.

any tools i should get.

pc

will reply properly later (at work now)! though i don't actually have a ton of experience! i probably have a few good tidbits of info tho.

We had a field next to our house for years with horses. We got to pet and feed them apples without paying for vet bills and general horse expenses. When the horse was gone they dozed over the field and built a huge house. Super sad.

ah dang. i've always hated seeing land disappear. saw an entire city (tamarac) transform when i was a kid. used to be tons of open land, and by the time i was 15, all gone & developed.

it's one thing i love about my current area.. folks out here fight to the death (lmao) to stop encroachment from developers/businesses etc. they want the parks, land, ranches, etc. love it. hope to god it stays this way.

though my neighbor said he's seen it change quite drastically. he said the main road into/out of town used to be completely canopy'd too with oaks and pines.. wish that were still the case.

if it stays how it is currently, i'd be happy w/ that.. ;f

Your situation sounds like a win /win for everyone.

Only worry I would have is them getting out for some reason. Make sure your fence game is up to par.

yea for sure. property is completely fenced in but need to re-enforce some area.

thanks man!!!

i'm going with one of my farm friends on saturday.. to look at horses.. :wowthatwasnutswtf:

it's a long story but, he's been taking care of them at someone's property, and the person wants to ship them off.. so, he came to me asking if he could keep them on my property.

they'd be his horses but:
- he'd show me the ropes
- he'd buy feed/take care of them/ride them multiple times per week
- let me/friends ride them whenever etc

highly considering it .. and my co-worker has been dreaming of a horse his whole life .. so if i get these and it works out good, would literally let him have a horse here too.

lmao.

i could be breaking into the horse game..

i do want horses so bad. i visit my neighbor's horses every morning.. ;f <3

Man your house/land is GOALS. I would absolutely love to have something like that one day.

yeah i was just talking with my best friend last night about the idea of buying a place together with his wife and another friend. we live in really expensive places (SF, DC) so this would be a kind of shared retreat situation somewhere cheaper and more beautiful. seems more realistic than buying homes where we live and i love the idea of (1) owning some land in common with close friends and (2) having a place that i know i can go back to year after year that's in a beautiful setting far away from crowds.

yea man if it's a best friend/someone you just know you can trust, sounds solid.

being able to disconnect daily from the city life feels every bit as incredible as i thought it would. when i'm home, feels like i'm in the middle of nowhere. absolutely love it..  :wowthatwasnutswtf:

i mean i'd rather own something 100% but that's just because of how i trust people. but someone i know was talking about that recently and seemed like they were so happy at the thought of doing it. so def seems worth considering!

evening: 5:39 no watch -> cool .. kinda hard tho, started out too fast it seems.. nice!

evening #2: 5 hours of farm life!! :wowthatwasnutswtf: :ninja:

awesome and physically rough. love it.

mulched a big trail i carved out over the last few weeks. couldn't be more happy w/ it.

yesterday:

2021-03-24

tons of pullups/dips as usual .. lookin shredded!

evening: light trot = 3 mi @ 7:37 -> super ez.. good sign!
- that's kinda nuts..... that's like really good fitness.. i used to trot 7:XX's when i was in peak shape before injury way back .. tho, i could do it for like 10 miles. i coulda kept this going for more miles but, keeping volume low.

evening #2: 3 hours of FARM LIFE

more mulching, shoveling, and used this big long tree that i cut down (was leaning) to make a little rustic gate :F

also, love how this came out, omg.

Man your house/land is GOALS.

damn man thanks alot hah. and ya man i pinch myself daily, no joke. it's crazy.

nice ! one day do it ! best decision i've ever made. it's like this big canvas that i get to paint for decades to come, i can't believe it. love it.

if i wasn't working in the area, i'd have moved further north and gotten 10x the land for the same price .. that's the only "bummer" BUT, the location i'm in right now is pure gold. it's incredible. surrounded by state parks, 15 min from the beach, ranches/farms everywhere, no encroachment.

just blows my mind.

and man, it's getting me in insane shape. love it.

so just keep saving & one day go for it !

just made a mulch power move! someone cutting down a beautiful red wood tree near work .. so i asked them if they can drive it 1 hour away and dump it at my property, would pay. so they asked for X and gave them X + 60.

would be well worth it, if it goes well.

solid!

- run 58:28, 12.04 km

as my mom put, a dazzler of a day. upper 50s, sunny, no wind.

- pull ups and push ups

nice! was a dazzler (amazing) here too. funny how you've mentioned it a few times recently, and was the exact same thing here.

today is partly cloudy, but once the sun pops thru.. <3

tons of pullups/dips/farm life throughout the day. feeling crazy strong on chinups.. feel so effortless.

lots of chainsawing at 3 PM .. so like chainsawing from 3-4:30 ish. then carrying lots of logs, some pretty big.

evening run: moderate 5k test: 3.1 @ ~6:30 -> 2nd half rough (strong headwind) .. happy about how it felt
- 4.3 mi total
- head wind sucked so bad, ruined sub 20 5k for sure. so i'm def in sub20 5k shape right now, which is nice.

finished the night w/ a fire pit and fell asleep (outside) towards the end, on a bench, in pitch darkness. #thelife .. just wish the fire would keep going forever.

fun.
