i still think we should put all dunks in the regular people dunking thread.. i should just rename it to "A WHOLE BUNCH OF DAMN DUNKS AND SHIT."

SST is where it all started for me..  Adarq makes it alot easier to understand for people though..  You think super training is worth getting or is all the available info just composed into the book? still getting the book but curious to what you think?

ya i imagine the new supertraining would be great.. it's all pretty much the science behind everything, less application yet more in depth analysis of ALL of the compnents to athletic performance. check it:

http://www.verkhoshansky.com/Portals/0/Book/Supertraining%20index.pdf

the first supertraining was amazing but i imagine with all of verkhoshansky's corrections and added material, the newer version will be truly epic. Going to pick me up a copy soon ;)

peace man

Wow haven't been here in a while. Interesting stuff going on.
For the first two, the big white guy, his terrible form is more a product of his low vertical. He does not have the reactive strength to perform a tuck jump with good form and enough hangtime.

For the ankle hops - he is not overloading his ankles as much as he could if he did not flex knee.

yup

Quote
For leg press - he's not training for strength; he is lifting very slowly, stopping at bottom of motion wastes the kinetic energy that can be turned into an explosive lift. That type of lifting is good for endurance and general strength/hypertrophy maybe.

i didn't rewatch the vid, but i remember the leg press he did looked really bad because of how his feet placement was, looked like he was using way too much "quad".. there's a way to do leg press that at least hits the hams/glutes a bit more, ie foot flat, feet placement a little higher.. i remember his feet were low and at the bottom his heels were off the plate.

Lol I loved this thread by the way, worst depth jump I've ever seen. I felt lazier watching it

lol, that's not the worst i've seen if you can imagine that.. can't find the worst one i've seen, but it was so bad that i'm laughing right now thinking about it.

I wonder what happens if you do a downhill sprint followed immediately by an uphill sprint. Like a \_/ running slope.

have a 'client athlete' that's pissing you off? load him up on heavy sled sprints, very heavy, so he's about 10-20% of the speed he could achieve for that distance (say 20 yards).. hit a bunch of sled sprints, say 5-10.. now, tell him to sprint maximally for ~20 yards etc, no 'warmup/re-acclimation sprints', pretty high of a chance he eats it (falls down)..

i've seen it happen quite a few times.

your post just reminded me of that.. if you ran uphill first, for say 5-10 sprints, then if you ran downhill, it would be pretty catastrophic imo.. the cns would overexagerate the lean, and going downhill, that would be very bad haha.. i know your post was the opposite of that, but whatever just found that funny.

will post vid of dunks/squats tomorrow.. takes so long to render/upload videos with squats in them, cause of the duration.

12/05/2010
bw = 155
soreness = calfs a little

aches/injuries = right ankle (think its a peroneal tendon, it's a combo of fatigue from those 35 ME jumps then squatting that night, but the squatting is what 'injured' it, because i felt it directly during squat tonight), left lower back a little

diet = protein shake + 1 tspn coffee, dunks/jumps, protein shake, black beans and rice + nacho chips + salsa, cake, protein shake + squatting, protein shake, pb sandwhich on double fiber bread

fatigue = low

workout #1: jumps/dunks
- decided to bring my grandpa with me, trying to get him out of the house... major fail, did not turn out well.. as soon as we got to the court, he said he wanted to leave, lol.. so i just went right into a few warmup jumps then started doing max jumps, so basically no warmup.. 15-20min total session, about 10 dunk attempts.
- felt very powerful
- ankle bugged before going to the court but i massaged the outside of my ankle and it felt better, didn't feel it during dunk session which is a good sign.. but afterwards, it was bugging me.

workout #2: afletic strenf.
- half squat: 45 @ 5 x 10,     135 @ 5, 5,     185 @ 5,    225 @ 5,     245 @ 5,      265 @ 10, 10, 10, 10, 10        235 @ 20

depth was good overall, felt very strong..

icing my ankle tonight, so far, twice.. will ice it a ton tomorrow.. tomorrow will probably be full rest.. tuesday will be some short sprints/double leg bounds probably, wednesday will be dunks/jumps + squatting... so basically getting in two days rest before wednesdays' session.. if my ankle is bugging on tuesday too, ill probably just walk, lots of icing.. hopefully it's fine by wednesday though, if it's not that would be really annoying.

for squat on wed, plan on hitting: 295-305 x 5, then 265-275 @ 5 x 10.. if 265, ill try to finish the sets faster than i did today.. will probably end up doing that, then the session after, go for 275 @ 5 x 10 & 245 x 20.

ok ok,

peace (it's 7am my time, icing my ankle one more time before a really big sleep, probably 10 hours ;d)

I'm a little jealous at how consistent you are jumping bro!

thanks man, shit is going good right now i got to keep it up.. peaking come dec 14 so, gotta stay focused and heal up my damn ankle, its bugging me.

Sweet ass on that chick in the blue jeans, 2nd pic. Nice jumping too btw hahaha.

ya she was alright, but, i felt like a damn pedo coz of this other chick.. she was like 16 or so, but honestly, one of the finest chicks i ever seen.. 16 years old, mixed black n white, redonkulous.. i was like, 'walk by my cam, wait wut, dont think like that, no seriously walk in front of my cam'.. then she walked behind it not to disturb the dunking.. lol, sounds disturbing coming from a 28 year old bUT MAN WHAT THE FUCK WHATEVER.

2nd that^^ making it count in front of the ladies aye darq!

i jump higher when females are around, no joke..

lol @ dagger's pic.. that dude does look like me.

I've read overspeed sprinting should be only 1-2% over normal, NOT MORE!
So if you run 40yard normal in 4.5s, with overspeed you shouldn't run faster than 4.4s. Otherwise it's counterproductive and dangerrous.
Nearly all people make that mistake. The reason is if you run to fast your brain feels like it's possible to fall or  get injured.
And so it will automatic protect you and that result in BAD SLOW running technic.

I also don't think that all overspeed methods are the same.

If you use downhill runs (no equipment required) make sure you have less then 1 degree slope. Compair the times!
Running with winds is a great way!

lol nice post..

yes, wind aided runs can be very effective, but again, the speed increases should be very small (<6%) or you end up like tyson gay blowing out his hammy.

I like pully overspeed if you train indoors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stWIRd-Gm6M

downhill runs are great too, 1 degree is pretty small of a limit, verkhoshansky always said no more than 6 degrees decline..

regardless, a progression must be followed, never jump right into a supramaximal training method without progressively intensifying the work to make sure everything is safe.. So if 6 degree slope is the goal, start off with 2, then 4, then 6.. etc.

peace

Dang! Amazing work Andrew!!! I just now noticed this thread; I'll read it in detail when I'm more awake.

thanks man, all credit to verk though of course, i just took notes on a bunch of his pdf's.. will do notes for latest supertraining and SSTM eventually.. slow process lol.

submax 1-step jump x2 -- got 30 easily on the first one and knew this was going to be a good day

work
sprint x4x15y
full run up x3x5 -- first jump was a PR, definitely 32 and maybe a bit more, everything was over 30.5 and a bunch were 31.5, might have gotten another 32 or two, as well

cool down
foam roll x30 mins
