How do people squat so much? I just can't understand it.

I have NEVER squatted high bar more than 140 kg in my life.

Same. My best ever squat is 137.5kg....
I think we just suck at squatting!

I always assumed Chris had a reach of around 7'10 I didn't know it was only 7'6. Nice vert!

They make it look so easy.

Running repeat 200s definitely brings out the lactic acid!

Sorry if this has been answered before but what kind of spikes do you have?

What times are you aiming for this year?
How many pro meets are you gonna compete in?

I think a realistic goal for the 100 would be around 11.60+/-0.1sec. I ran 12.10 last year but already I feel a lot better than that. We'll see. Would be happy with a 24.5sec 200m but not too fussed. The pro circuit will be all new to me so I'm just aiming to do as many as I can to get more experienced.

Yeah I think you could get to mid 11s this season especially since you're doing a pre-season this year.
The VAL rewards athletes that run more frequently so by the end of the season you could have a sash for the 70m or at least some money from making 70m finals.

That's impressive regardless of age. But for a 14 year old that's just  :o

Don't worry man the first time I entered a race was about 18 months ago and I ran 11.84. Within a month I got that down to 11.55 and after 6 months it was 11.37w before I tore my hamstring.
Same with the 200 I went from 23.95 to 23.18 within a month and after 6 months I got to 23.15 but that was my first 200m for the season so I was out of shape and everybody else that I ran against that week ended up runing 0.4-0.5 seconds quicker in the next race a couple of weeks later so I'm pretty fkn sure that I would've gone sub 23 if my fkn hamstring didn't tear.

Anyway the point is it's pretty quick to improve from your first race and if you've done sub 13 in training than it's only a matter of time before you hit sub 13 at a meet. Same for the 200.

adarq.org was created on the premise of "Can truly excellent coaching, training and science application take a low-level or mediocre athlete and turn him into a high performing athlete?"
Whilst initially focussed upon vertical the question/framework also applies to other areas of athleticism, such as speed and strength.

In this thread it will be a bit different because I will be logging the progression of sprinters who are elite/world class. My information will be derived from athlete journals and websites and supported with links wherever possible.

*Years training= at an elite level

Sally Pearson-
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/australia/sally-pearson-194553#progression

100m
Peaked in 2007 after 4 years training.
11.57 down to 11.14= 0.43 seconds improvement.
200m
Peaked in 2012 after 9 years training.
23.78 to 23.02= 0.76 seconds improvement.

Carmelita Jeter
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/united-states/carmelita-jeter-189546#progression

100m
Peaked in 2009 after 6 years training
11.56 to 10.64= 0.92 seconds improvement

200m
Peaked in 2012 after 5 years training.
22.82 to 22.11= 0.71 seconds improvement

Asafa Powell
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/jamaica/asafa-powell-189571#progression

100m
Peaked in 2008 after 6 years training.
10.12 to 9.72= 0.40 seconds improvement

200m
Peaked in 2006 after 4 years training
20.48 to 19.90= 0.58 seconds improvement.

I guess why I chose these 3 athletes to start the database off is because I'm currently reading Sally Pearson's biography. In it she mentioned that she first went sub 12 seconds in the 200m when she was 14 years old.
In comparison you have somebody like Carmelita Jeter who at 23 was only running 11.79 as her PB.
http://speedendurance.com/2009/10/19/asafa-powell-and-carmelita-jeter-peak-training-age/
Similiarly you've got Asafa Powell who was 17 years old running 11.45 but suddenly dropped to 10.12 by the time he was 19.

Sally Pearson is a world class and gold medallist Olympic hurdler so she wouldn't train exclusively for the 100 and 200 like Jeter but it still gives a comparison of the differences.

Therefore, clearly the limitation of an elite database is you can't get the level of progression and development from when these elite/world class athletes were younger but it still gives you an insight into just how hard it is to actually improve when somebody is already at an elite level.

left timer at home today, just went all-out from a four-point stance on all reps. i think i'm going to use the timer less from now on; i don't have that much WO-to-WO improvement so it's kind of stupid. better to practice starting with both hands on the ground. will still time at least once/week, especially the longer runs.

Agreed.
Other than for tempos I don't use a stopwatch.
When I'm running >90% I prefer just thinking about relaxation and having both my hands open instead of having my concentration ruined by holding a stopwatch in one hand, and than having to think about stopping to press the button as I hit the line.

calf is really hurting from yesterday's run.. sucks.. was a super-shit run too, got stung by something, eyes burning, calf felt wrecked, etc. :F

going to just walk for a week or so.

Do you think your calf hurts from being heavier now or just from it being a while since you last ran?

Yo Mutumbo.. sorry for the late reply. Well, the extra weight doesn't help. However, this is from an injury that happened in ~2003. Streetball, fast break, about to go up for a layup, defender somehow managed to knee down into my calf. Tore it pretty bad, was on crutches for a while, out for ~3 months before I could do anything.

so, if i'm not in proper shape, it flares up. It's amazing that it never really flared up when I was into dunking for all of that time. I'd feel the scar-tissue area but it wouldn't ever prevent me from doing anything. I probably have a huge bit of scar tissue in there.

It's all good tho it'll eventually disappear, sux tho it really flared up bad

No worries man.
It's interesting how the body builds up resiliance when it's training regularly. I took a 6 month lay off from training but over the past couple of years I accumulated a lot of niggling injuries (lower back, hamstrings, calves). You'd think that after having 6 months rest my body would've fully recovered but instead as soon as I went back to moderate training they flared up again.
But like you said it'll eventually disappear and hopefully my hamstring can recover like your calf once I'm in shape again.

I never understood who this guy is.

He's a mentally challenged guy who is convinced that he's the world's best boxer. He's typically known for talking shit on the internet and going around to random gyms challening people to fights.

Blake finished 6th or so on a terrible sprint in the Diamond League a week or so ago at 200m.

I just watched that race on youtube.
20.48 SB although I think that was his only run for this season. Apparently he hurt his hamstring a couple of days ago as well so Blake is just out of shape atm.
