Article & Video Discussion / Re: Utilising Verkhoshansky's methods
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:40:23 pm »
well, i don't ascribe strictly to his training ideology, so i wouldn't be the one to ask.. but i like to incorporate alot of his methods. For his exact ideology i'd check out verkhoshansky.com and his SSTM book:

Special Strength Training: Practical Manual For Coaches

there's a new one being written write now, or at least finished by james smith apparently.. verkohshansky was writing it, and now, i think james smith is finishing it.

I always eat an omelet sandwich an hour before my work-out. What is the best meal before a work-out? I'll try your advice, thank you! Oh, okay i'll try to drink coffee and state what it did for me tomorrow. thanks!

omelet should be good actually.. i usually don't eat too much before training, if i do it's hours before, such a a turkey and cheese sandwich, cheeseburger etc, egg sandwich etc.. if training is important, i usually eat big the day BEFORE.. so if i'm planning some big training on monday, i'll eat real big on sunday, and eat lighter on monday to keep me nice and alert.. if training is very important i'll take coffee + protein + milk (protein shake) an hour or so before training.

so, smaller meals, higher protein content is better before workouts.. doesn't matter as much 4+ hours out, could be higher carb etc.. but eating alot of fat/carb right before training can cause you to get drowsy.

peace man

That was brilliant. I bet it took a lot of work, because that vid was awesome. Lots of takes, angles, effects, awesome audio -great work man.

thanks alot man.. ya it was alot of work, initially.. i did those physique/stalk/chase scenes months ago, they took some time.. just had the footage sitting around for a while so, had to incorporate it into something, was tired of it sitting around unfinished!!

22 Jan 2011

Conditioning/recovery session

Weight@session : ~193,5
Injuries/aches : none
Soreness : quads 3/5 , hamstrings 2/5 , calves 1/5

- 15 mins dynamic warmup

- 10x1 ~50m sprints@100%
Very nice , fast and springy.

-Jumps ( 10' rim , concrete ):
2x4 SVJs : Average ~24'' ( that's 9'11'' , failing to touch rim!!! ) , max ~25,5''
2x4 dropsteps : average ~27,5 , max 29''
Roads and weather were dry , but courts were wet , it was actually muddy, was afraid i'd slip even at SVJs
FML!!!  :pissed:

ya man don't even worry about those numbers, muddy surface + afraid to slip is not gonna lead to good jumps lol.

skiing soon will be fun tho ;d

I frequently feel sleepy and tired even after doing the specified warm-up  because I need to study ( :-X ) that's why I didn't have enough sleep. What is better, drink a coffee (or other drinks that pump up an athlete) and risk having longer recovery period or push through with the training until you feel awake and risk having less results on that training? Or are there other ways to be more awake?

what are you eating before working out? if it is carb heavy, it can be making you even more tired..

i'd utilize the caffeine prior to the most important workouts, wouldn't for the less important workouts, and i'd try to figure out how to feel better naturally (somehow getting more sleep, quick 30min nap, etc).
