Well I don't mind it too much. To each his own, though. At least your respectful to me unlike many douchebags in America...

Been fasting since 3:30am (it's 4:15pm here now). Can't eat or drink till 8pm.

Could never understand what food has to do with God or religion.

It is believed by muslims that everything that God prohibits is for our own good (alcohol, masochism, smoking, uncleanliness) EXCEPT for fasting. Food and water during sunlight hours of ramadan is the only thing that is prohibited not for our own good, but strictly for the love of God. However it also teaches us self-control, how it feels to be hungry and thirsty every day and thus compel us to give to those that don't have, to appreciate the food/water that we do have, and a few other things.

Nutrition & Supplementation / Re: Denaturation
« on: July 15, 2011, 02:46:02 pm »
Absorption is something most people don't take into account.

....let alone the rate of absorption of protein.

whey doesnt even reach peak absorption until about an hour after you ingest it. Take your whey right before lifting, and if you finish in an hour, you'll get the most of it that way (especially if you take some simple sugars peri-workout).

Friggin horrible! BUT that just means there's so much room for improvement... if that was perfect jump form then you would have trouble gaining more inches  ;)

1. You're going to have to run faster.
2. You're going to have to learn to come into the basket at an angle.
3. You need to jump further from the basket at take-off (I have this problem too).
4. You're barely even.... planting. I swear, on both jumps, I thought you were going to take off from one foot.
5. Practice jumping without the ball first to work on technique and learn to use your arms when you jump (the swing).

Well..... yeah  :ninja:

If I were you, Raptor, I'd enter your max in pounds and THEN follow the spreadsheet. But convert back to kg.

10kg is a bigger jump than 20lbs, and the same from 5kg-->10lbs.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Newbie to training
« on: June 25, 2011, 06:45:06 pm »
Hello to all you out there. Here are my stats:

13 years old, gonna be a freshman
Bodyweight: 165 lbs.
Height: 5' 10"
BF%: 13-15%
Standing Reach: 90"
Standing Vert: 16"
Running Vert 21"
(Weak vertical jump as of now, I know, but that is why I am here, to improve and get better.)
Back Squat: 185 lbs  4x8 (just started squatting recently)

I am naturally strong in my upper body, but not so much in my lower body. Have a large frame, and am slightly upper body heavy if that helps at all

Have been doing the VJB Novice Weights and Plyos for about 7 weeks now, and haven't seen any gains yet.

Very excited to continue training and hopefully improving my vertical jump before the basketball season starts.

Thanks

These starting stats are actually pretty good... as a freshman in HS i couldnt touch rim, and then dunked my sophomore year at 5'10

You have a lot of improvement ahead of you!

Wait till you work on your running approach. 45+ inch RVJ is well within your grasp.

ESPECIALLY if you can get repeatable 40" SVJs.

Good morning stretch... I don't like reach stretches, because they also stretch my lower back. I don't want that.

Also, RDLs! They stretch the hamstrings like crazy, especially since there's resistance. Do some light RDL's and you'll feel it.

About the post wo nutrition... it takes about an hour for a significant amount of whey protein (and even casein) to enter your bloodstream after ingesting it. Therefore, it would make sense to take it at the start of you workout, and then when your finished (presumably in about an hour), it begins recovering your muscles pretty much immediately.
