Thanks Coges. I'm still a fair way off where I used to be though.

I played pick up today for 3 hours. My team won every game in king of the courts.

I did 10 dunk attempts and only managed to land 1 of them so my best vertical is around 34 inches atm. I can't even touch the rim from standing vertical (26 inches for me to touch the ring) but with a run up I'm able to get 30+ on every attempt.

34" = good stuff ^^

34" at 90kg is 38" at 80kg.... Easy path to jumping high for you.

Also the other thing to keep in mind besides practice is that shooting (just like any other skill in life) also comes down to innate ability. Look at golf and somebody like Tiger Woods. He started out playing when he was very young, but if you took 10,000 people and they all practiced exactly the same amount of times as Tiger Woods at the same age etc. and did everything he did there would be an extreme amount of variation in the sample group. Look at Shaq and his free throws as an example. Being a professional player and having world class coaches and all the resources that come along with it he still struggled with his free throws but he did improve. Basketball is a fairly simple game. Work to your strengths and just keep practicing your shooting. Getting all wound up about  shooting mechanics and technique is failing to see the forest for the trees.

I played pick up for 3 hours today. I went to another court with my friends today on the other side of the city and we had a great time playing against opposition we have never played before. Usually we go to the same court on Sundays so we end up playing similar people each time.

Shooting is a skill. Skills get improved through practice. Iverson was regarded as a chucker but he still averaged around 30 points a game.

My diet is still poor. I'm eating fast food most days the only difference between now and 6 months ago is that I've cut down my beer consumption by about 50%. My ideal weight would be around 75kg (I'm 5'11) but until I get strict on my diet it's going to take a very long time to get there.

Played 4 hours of pick up. Feet and calves are dead. Glutes and hamstring feel sore from the leg curls I did the other day and the sprints.

Thanks Coges. I've got another appointment with the bank on Tuesday so I'll run the numbers and see. If I'm not 100% satisfied I'm just going to pull out.With the current economic climate it's not the best time to be highly leveraged and speculating on house growth either.
