ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: General Strength Training Principles
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:19:08 pm »
Thanks for taking the time you give all that detail. I'll definitely drop the weight and learn the proper technique.

Just one question. How can I stop my back from rounding because I'm sure that's a problem I have with other pulls and it also happens during max effort squats where I basically do a good morning near the bottom then straighten up as I get to half squat depth?

Yo Lance, I've been working hard to improve my cleans but need some help with my form to move heavier weights. I feel comfortable with the actual pull but the catch is terrible and as you can see my body goes forward and instead of backward. What can I do to fix that and any other problems you see? Thanks a lot man.

Also another thing I've been doing after heavy cleans is doing a 10rep hang cleans. It works real well and I can get a lot more reps in then I would had I not done the heavy cleans before. Thought that would work only for the heavy lifts but it works well for the explosive ones as well.

Here's the video of max effort cleans at 205, 210, 215, and 225 miss

I like that article a lot but for me it only raises more questions than it answers.

That's a good point about U.S. women also not being very good at olympic lifting.

But I'd just like to say that soccer features a wide variety of physical specimens. You have short players (Messi) and tall players (Crouch) and also a variety of stocky and lean individuals. Having 11 players on the pitch gives you the option to play with athletes who possess different physical qualities. Some of the slowest athletes like Zidane are among the games greatest because of their ability to control the game. Then of course you have your faster individuals who typically play out on the wings.

Just saying that soccer doesn't require a specific set of athletic characteristics at all, especially when compared to the more strictly performance sports like athletics and olympic lifting.

Hey Lance, I didn't want to start a new thread and I need some advice on my squat. Can you let me know if what I'm doing is technically sound and if I can keep pushing the weight?

3 sets on video - 3x285, 3x295, and 10x205 - The 295 is maximal effort and the 205 is the last set you told me about.

How old are you, you look so young? In my opinion the best thing you can do at this stage is find sports that you enjoy playing and join a team each season. You will develop quickly if you try to improve with each sport and you can have a lot of fun too.

I think it would help your development more than doing max jump sessions and lifting weights. But you should still do the bodyweight stuff, its really great that you've started doing that at such a young age.

That's just my opinion but just know that you have a lot of time to grow and improve. I'd try a wide range of sports and activities.

True, that's 13+ feet right there. He must have some seriously strong bones, Avishek's got nothing on that dude.

How's your standing vertical? I wonder why you're not jumping higher even though we have similar body structure & weight and you have a stronger squat also. Has your previous RVJ max been higher after a power/speed cycle?

^^^ LOL.... Could that dude jump or did he just dance and do avishek drops?

Been trying real hard to get that first dunk but its so hard for everything to go right. I think the second jump is a PR and I may have hit 40. I know the angle is shit but I hit my wrist on the rim. I have only done that when attempting to get a high touch on rim making it ~ 37-38 with ~ 7'6" reach.

Does it seem like a 40inch jump? It has been a long time goal and it would be a big achievement.  First 3 jumps are the biggest by far so not really worth watching after, just more misses and lower jumps.
