New Australian record in the 3000m. 7 minutes 28.02 seconds, which is the 17th fastest 3000m of all time.

Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo claimed the victory in 7:26.64 - the fastest time in the world this year - and Norwegian Jakob Ingebritsen (7:27.05) was second.

yea i saw that. pretty sick.

some seriously fast times being run this year. olympics woulda been nuts.. wondering if they'll be able to "peak again" for next year.

jakob still crushing it.

Norway is producing some great track athletes atm. Jakob Ingebritsen is only 20 years old  :o

I missed Judo training tonight because I got held up at work late.

Soreness-
Hamstring tightness.
Initially I thought it may have been DOMS from squats but the only conclusion I can come to is it's from doing some short max effort sprints at Judo on Saturday. I did some stretching and foam rolled them tonight. The problematic one (left side) feels slightly strained so  I will have to nurse it for the next week or two to keep it safe.

Left Achilles-Felt much better today than yesterday.

Gym-

Bench-
barx12
60x6
90x3
105x3
95x5 for 3 sets

Chin Ups-
10,10,10

Jump Rope-
220 skips.

I'm not going to do any squats until my left hamstring feel less tight/less strained.

My old rugby league club made the Grand Final and had a game on Sunday. One of the old trainers called me and asked if I wanted to have breakfast at the club and get a bus with the players for the Grand Final so I decided to take him up on the offer. My old team ended up winning the game 24-18. It was good to see a lot of players I used to play with get a championship. I don't go to many of the games because I always get itchy feet and want to play. By the end of the day I was sick of people asking me why I wasn't playing and whether I was planning on playing next season. It seemed like I had the conversation about my achilles about 50 times yesterday with everyone encouraging me to get surgery so I can play again.  I'm happy with my decision to retire but it would've been nice being able to play and win a championship.

I haven't lifted any weights since Friday but my hamstrings are really sore. My achilles was playing up today as well. I was getting random pain on it throughout the day. I walked 16k steps yesterday and was on my feet pretty much the whole day from 9am to 10pm so maybe the standing contributed to its condition. I could've gone to the gym and done upper body training today but after last night's celebrations I just want to have an early night and get some good sleep. The fact that my achilles is painful just after watching rugby league says it all- I'm in no condition to play.

Splits & Squats- Days 12 & 13

Back is still fried. Having to hold my breath every now and then to stop the spasms. I'm pretty fucking pissed but what do you do? I think it was either the pause squats or the single leg good morning. That along with me sitting at a desk for 10+ hours a day right now. Something went wrong there. Not going to squat today obviously. Will get some simple movement going and see how I go from there.

On a more positive note I have a couple of test subjects for my coaching. Two mates (one basketball, one martial arts) have agreed to be my guinea pigs. I'm writing out their programs today and am pretty stoked to see how they go.

The spams sound fairly intense. I have the same issue sitting at a desk for long periods of the day Monday-Friday, which isn't too good for mobility. All you can do is rest. I think adarq is spot on- it's probably the paused squats that triggered it.

400m Sprinting or Shorter / Re: The Sprinting News Thread
« on: September 11, 2020, 06:13:39 am »
it's the oldest record? daaamn.

warholm looks like the one who is capable of doing it. this guy is crazy.

alot of records falling in this post-covid era. maybe less competition = better? dno.

Yeah it's the oldest male track record. There are some older field records, such as Yuriy Sedykh from the Soviet Union having a hammer throw world record set back in 1986, which is also the same year East German Jürgen Schult set the current world record for discuss. There are still quite a few female track records that are from the 1980's. For example, there is East Germany's Marita Kosch's 400m record of 47.60 set back in 1985. Czech Jarmila Kratochvílová  still has the 800m world record that was 1:53.28 set back in 1983. She also held the 400m word record in 1983 but Kosch broke it in 1985.

As we know that period (1980's) was tainted by doping and it shows just how advantageous performance enhancing drugs are given that nutrition, sports science and technology have come a long way in the past 30+ years.

For the current records being broken it might be a combination of athletes feeling refreshed and 2020 was supposed to be an Olympic year so everybody is trying to peak for the right time.

this warholm dude is on fire lately.

47.13 world lead.

https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/news/detail/karsten-warholm-misses-400m-hurdles-world-record-stockholm/

Karsten Warholm came desperately close to breaking Kevin Young's 28-year-old 400m hurdles world record at the Stockholm Diamond League on Sunday (23 August).

Had the Norwegian star not hit the last hurdle, he probably would have broken Young's time set in the Barcelona 1992 Olympic final.

As it was, he had to settle for the second quickest time in history, 46.87s, just nine-hundredths adrift of the oldest men's track record in athletics.
