I was wrong!

bball2020, I am also on board with Andrew, at least with my own squatting. While I can get deep and maintain proper form, I see lots of little issues from time to time.

Hopefully I am currently overreaching b/c i woke up tired for 4 days in a row now and my last plyo workout was terribly flat.

If you watch a fight, you will notice that when they grapple or clench, they push on each other with their head. Also, there are multiple other instances where the head is pushed on for leverage or advantage by the opponent and you need to be able to keep your head up to see what is going on. I have no idea why he added a lateral raise to it.

Like I said above NBA, my hip flexor length is not an issue. I have had a PT when doing work on my ankle say that I have more mobility that normal population for hip extension. As for adhesions, maybe, but I don't think they explain why I get low grade pain during unloaded hip flexion.

People in higher elevations and higher pollution areas have higher levels of RBCs to account for lower oxygen levels.

When palpated, on the ASIS. During the squat when greater than 90 degrees hip flexion. Wider stance and knees out makes it worse. It seems to be a strain through the connective tissue of the sartorius since it originates in that location, but no one has really been able to diagnose that in particular.

The only thing I have read is that in some people the anterior portion of the greater trochanter can have nodules that press into the soft tissue during deep hip flexion. IDK, currently I'm doing trap bar deads as a way to get squats in without squatting, lol.

A more recent squat video. I bought a pair of oly shoes to get a narrower stance and hopefully stave off some of the hip issues. It seemed to work for a while, but they slowly came creeping back in.

Uh, maybe I didn't do it right:

Sitting Height: 39.5"
Standing Height: 73"

SHR: 54.1%

I have shit for ankles so that really effects my depth, but I can, after mobility training squat below parallel without rounding though initially it wasn't possible. Also, I tend to get hip pain when I go below parallel which has not been resolved by the repeated advice that it is a hip flexor length issue.

Program Review / Re: Starting Strength
« on: March 10, 2010, 04:54:37 pm »
I performed the squat portion of Starting Strength. That is 3x/week, 3x5, increasing weights each time. I went from completely detrained strength training state, from coming off my season, to matching my PR within about 6 weeks. Honestly, it was great at the time. Unfortunately, at the end of that 6 week run I had to get surgery, so I can not ever be completely conclusive of it's GPP effects for the next cycle I planned on starting; however, I was a squatting machine and didn't really have much issues at the time.

It is VERY important to keep up with your rest, kcal intake, and flexibility/mobility. Squatting this frequently, even with dead perfect form, is very hard on your joints and soft tissues. Once you start to get near your maxes (if they are of any decent weight) it will take its toll on you very quickly.

I do the same thing, mine is due to lack of ankle ROM.

kellyb and I were talking on dbhammer forum a while ago, he thinks alot of these guys have dorsiflexion rom issues (such as golden child), which given their insane calfs/achilles is going to give them alot of bounce.

I break your theory. :P

What is strange about this is that the just jump mat via it's patent filing uses a standard hangtime calculator, yet, it consistently reads slightly higher than what my vertec jump is when I measured them simultaneously. From your video, I should have seen a drastic decrease in my vertical, yet I saw a slight bump.
