SMO-LOV JU-NIOR! SMO-LOV JU-NIOR!
Yesterday, marathoner Eliud Kipchoge became the first ever to break two hours. Today in Chicago, Brigid Kosgei set a new women’s world record. Staggering achievements on their own, they’re also remarkable examples of humanity’s ability to endure—and keep raising the bar.
Dear Mr. Obama, Thank you for your special words. In life we hope to inspire others. Thank you for inspiring me. It would be my greatest honour if we could meet, and discuss how we can make this world a running world. As a running world is a peaceful world. #NoHumanIsLimited
The WR checking was about the 100m race example only.
Once again, don't get me wrong, i am not even sure i am convinced by my argument. But something is bothering me. I think what bothers me is that although this has nothing to do with the marathon, it masks the marathon. No marathon win will ever be the same , because no marathon win will be below 2 hours. Whatever happens, even if we see an epic marathon where the winner wins the runner up passing him at the last 100m and at an inhuman time of 2:00:01... "meh, Kipchoge would have owned that bitch", "bro, can you even run sub-2h?".
Maybe not for you and me and some other people, but for the vast majority i see that as a threat.
Anyway, good food from thought from your POVs too. Hope you are right and my skepticism is wrong.
Agree to all of the above.
The slippery slope is : how will you ever enjoy the sports marathons when you know they are an inferior... how to call it... 'venue'?
It will still be , say, Mo Farah today, running alone far ahead from the 2nd probably, finishing at 2'08'' or something. You will be watching the exact same thing with Kipchoge, a guy running alone trying to bet his best, but knowing his best can never come close to the 'lab' one,
Imagine the same thing spreading. A perfect conditions 9:3x 100m. Who will sit to watch 10'' races again after that. Competition is great and all, but the real adrenaline spike is when you check the clock to see if they WRed. Where are we going if this is taken away from us?
Not saying it is happening, but yes , worried that this might have been the start of it.
Also all those thoughts don't subtract even the slightest percentage of my owe and admiration of Kipchoge's accomplishment, which goes far beyond a timed running section.
i don't know, i guess i disagree with what's compelling about watching sports. i don't watch sports expecting the WR to be broken every time, i watch to see people at the absolute limit of human ability trying to outdo each other. it's thrilling when records are broken, of course, but a photo finish is just as (maybe even more) exciting IMO. there's no comparison between kipchoge running 1:59 and him setting the WR in a race against other people who are also trying to run as hard as they can and beat him.
Idk, if you had two kipchoge's in the same race going at it what would happen?
And concerning 'lab conditions' how many people are capable of going sub 2hr in ideal conditions? Do they even exist or is Kipchoge in a class of his own? Do people have treadmill times better than him?

5.30am
Snatch-
Bunch of very basic drills. Working through this without much progression at the moment. Need to get something here.
3 x 30
Power Snatch-
2 x 40
2 x 50
Clean and Jerk (I love the idea of the squat jerk but realistically I need to be hitting the split from here)-
50 x 2
60 x 2
Squats- (last set cue of looking up and opening my mouth out of the hole. Straight up imitation of Chinese lifters. Bar felt like a feather on my back with that. weird)
70 x 3
110 x 3, 3, 2, 3 - all belted sets
Clean pull-
110 x 3
140 x 3, 2, 2, 1 - straps for all sets.forgot my belt on the second set here. Legs were toast after these.
BTN Push Press
50 x 4, 4, 2
10 mins stretching and done.
I'm balls deep in olympic lifting at the moment and it's very cool. Looking to line up a novice comp soon but not sure if I need to be part of a club first or something. Research to do.
*Edit- interesting observation this morning. Have been sneaking in a bulk the last few weeks. Ideally want to get to 100 and be a fairly 95. Currently sitting at 92 and still have top 4 abs. Two things happened this morning that confirm I'm on the right track. On way to gym I just felt a bit bigger. Firstly after my second set of squats at 110 random guy comes over, compliments me on form then starts asking for squatting advice. Never happened before in my life. Squats were looking good though. Secondly I was getting some decent eye attention from the females in the general area. This has happened before (obviously haha) but happens less to me in the gym given how many huge dudes workout there. Both good signs and a little extra juice to get me off to a good week.
lmao.
all good signs for swole life.
one day i will achieve 130 lb and receive absolutely no looks, just incredible speed. the dream.
Lol. I've never been anywhere near swole so that would be nice.
I'll start calling you The Sleeper haha.

Great world athletic championship, due to work I couldn't watch it live so watched the entire pre recorded live session and it was incredible.
Let me see if I can remember the high points.
So happy for mutaz with the high jump. He has adopted a new style of keeping his arms to the side. Sucks about him injuring himself attempting the world record but he came back strong.
4 x 100m relay is unbeatable - coleman, gatlin and lyles and any fast american left
Hasan really awesome in the double gold, said she felt angry because of the alberto salazar charge and the suspicion on the atheltes on the oregon project, when she kicks, no one can catch her.
Pole vault was soo fun and exciting the head to head with the two top guys.
400m hurldes woman, wat a race. dalillah muhammad vs mclaughlin, great win and world record, don't know why it reminds of what would happen if terence will fight spence lol.

but the way nasser beat uibo in the 400m, she just went all out entire 400m.
110m hurdles sucks for ortega but glad he got a medal. the ingerbrigtsen are good but the kenyans, ethiopians and ugandans show when they kick they are far apart.

I was surpised and happy to see the german woman runner keep up with the kenyans and come bronze (Konstanze Klosterhalfen) 5000m but obiri on another level.
all in all great championship a lot of event were really good and exciting.
I'm still heavy, idk gonna buy some laxative and have a party on Monday lol
