Boxing / great boxing tonight - lots of beatdowns
« on: September 30, 2012, 12:31:40 am »
good stuff.. that last fight on hbo was nuts.. dude's ear was bleeding (from internal?).. i can't believe he made it past the 1st round.. he was wrecked yet managed to survive until round 6 or so? each round he was getting destroyed but would fight back just enough for it not to get stopped.

wtf is up with marquez/pacquiao 4... i seriously would rather watch them fight other people at this point.

Basketball / Re: New lebron's cost $300, but it should be well worth it!
« on: September 30, 2012, 12:30:02 am »
It supposedly comes with a device within the shoe that can measure one's vertical.  Now that has got to be the sickest shoe ever made because a jump mat costs $500 and can't measure your running vertical.  This shoe has other features too and is also a solid basketball shoe.

300 bucks? damn

wouldn't it be smarter to get one of those portable devices/phone which can measure vert pretty accurately.. sounds more cost effective in the long run.

portable device = initial investment
shoes = purchases every ~3 months

i know when i played basketball, i tore up shoes so fast, especially since i played outside on concrete..

which reminds me i need to buy some new waffle racers tonight.

mid heavy goodmorings + higher rep weighted GHRs worked well for me. i'm baller.. i have the GHR bench. lol :headbang:

ghr bench is way diff tho.

we had a GHR bench at MSC/perfect competition etc.. i could bang out GHR bench reps but couldn't even go halfway down on natty-ghr.

u r baller tho.

seriously this rice and beans platter with double grilled chicken (marinated), plantains and pita bread is just legit as f**k.. $11 but it's huge and well made for a semi-fast food place.

what a failure of a website though, they don't even have any food p*rn.

i'll have to take a pic eventually.

Nutrition & Supplementation / Re: Pre and Post Workout Ideas
« on: September 29, 2012, 08:08:29 pm »
Now I know I "could just use" Gatorade but they're really expensive and I don't know whether they are actually effective or not.
Do you have any ideas of what to use before and after workouts. Do I just buy powders and stuff to mix in to make a shake? If so, which ones work well.
I mainly need it for before and after tennis, basketball, or lifting.

Thanks

everyone gave you good suggestions.. being that you're 14, the biggest thing is just eating the right foods.. you need meals packed with protein and veggies.

if you wanted to go the supplements route:

morning: milk (chocolate milk even better) + 1 scoop of whey
pre-workout: a mix of gatorade powder (1 scoop) and whey (1 scoop) + water (8-12oz)
post-workout: milk (chocolate milk even better) + 1 scoop of whey

that'll do it..

but really understand that it's the REAL FOOD that is most important in this stage of development... veggies + chicken/beef, whole grain pasta/rice/breads etc... limit or completely eradicate the junk/junk carbs/sodas from your diet.

peace

For me they destroy my knees... I can even feel the kneecap "move around weirdly" when I do them, and tremendous pressure on it and every ligament etc in there.

i've felt some weird stuff in my knee too on a few occasions.

we need a natty-ghr hate thread.

Not sure if sarcasm...

But if sarcasm, then I have to say - it's too bad atg squats ruin your hips.

no i'm dead serious.. for me personally, i have no intention to ever play with natural ghr's again.. they've tweaked my tendons quite a few times.

I wish I was 7 feet  :-[

You really do? Imagine having a partner for a 69!

No but seriously... 7 feet is pretty big and "unusual" in your everday life. Plus you probably wouldn't jump for shit except if you're Javale McGee or Coward.

this true story brought to you by raptor.

here's a kind of long raw footage of me just shooting around and getting some light jumps/dunks in. These seem to help with recovery alot. I only did maybe 3 or 4 maximal effort jumps at the end the rest were kind of light easy jumps. It feels good to be dunking and just playing ball alot again. I like to do this every day and just call it basketball cardio. The video is kinda long because it's not really edited I only trimmed the beginning and end of the clip...

nice! those dunks looked effortless..

Adarqui might appreciate the waffle racers

SICK!!!

i didn't even notice, but I DID NOTICE that you were on your toes alot.. which is a biproduct of waffles.

what is your opinion of them? how do they feel?

man i love my waffle racers but i think i'm going to try and get back to dunking in basketball shoes this time around... just need to find some really good light ones.

i'll continue to wear them for pretty much everything else though. my current waffles are wrecked but still usable, those things are tanks.

edit: COME TO THINK OF IT, it may be really hard for me to dunk in basketball shoes.. i really do love how waffles feel when i jump.. and since im focusing on single leg now, they feel even nicer with single leg jumps so.. dno.

It seems my runup is very slow on camera, because I feel like i'm going pretty fast but the camera shows otherwise. Does any one know why or any good exercises or progressions to develop a faster run up and jump stop?

ya runup definitely didnt look blazing but you were also going light and taking short runups..

just remember if you work on runup speed, it's always a focus on a smooth acceleration, not just an all out burst of speed.. has to be rhythmic imo.

any comments or criticisms are welcome...

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQsrN1S2w8E" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQsrN1S2w8E</a>

not sure what to criticize considering it was a light shoot around/light jumps etc..

everything looked pretty good, movements, jumpers, jumps, plant, runups, etc..

personally i would never take slow jumpers ever.. even in a relaxed workout.. i always focused on quick release, it seemed to really pay off.. i had such a fast release that i could pull J's on people in really tough defensive situations and i credit it to always focusing on making sure to maintain speed on the pullup & J.. if i was doing relaxed movements like you, it would be that speed except for the moment i decide to J..

i think that stuff helps.. when you look at a guy like tim hardaway or jeff hornacek (guys i grew up watching), their release was unbelievable.. could J in any situation & with the tightest defense on them.

dno, 2cents. ;0

peace man, nice vid.

Natural GHRs that you're doing them destroy my knees/ligaments etc ... did them yesterday, it wasn't a very smart thing to do.

yup.. ghr's have wrecked my hamstring tendons for an extended period of time.

i will never focus on ghr's ever again.

ghr's can kiss my ass, f**k that sh*t.

look at how awesome this is.. i want to do that even though they literally give me hamstring tendonitis!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsXpTzXT-Uo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsXpTzXT-Uo</a>

wtf. idgaf. i'll stick to hyper's, rdl, and even forms of leg curls.
