26/06/16 5pm

Trained with my mate last night so just did whatever.

RDL - bar x 10, 60 x 10
Deadlift- 80 x 5, 100 x 5, 120 x 5, 130 x 5
(last set was belted - lower back felt somewhat dodgy after 120 set. Threw the belt on and the 130 set was hard but not sure I got much from belt anyway)

Got talking to my cousin who was training at the same time so spent about 25 mins standing around. We had just watched him do box squats for sets of 4 at 180kg. It's his deload week too  :o after maxing out at 220 for 5x5 last week. He is about 115-120 at the moment though but strong as fuck. He's a bodybuilder but trains for strength too. First time I've ever actually seen him lift. We catch up pretty often but never in the gym.

Chins-
bw x 5, 5, 5

Tyre Flip (don't know weight of tyre but it was tractor sized)
4 x 5 flips each

EZ bar curls-
25kg x 10, 10, 10

Felt pretty good afterwards. Forearms are feeling it from the tyre flips. First time ever doing these but they felt pretty good.

Your cousin sounds like a beast.
It would've been really cool/motivational seeing those lifts done in person.

400m Sprinting or Shorter / Re: 16 Year Old Aussie 10.44 100m

The halestorm is back!
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-26/jack-hale-breaks-australian-u20-sprint-recored/7544566

nice! glad to see he's still beastin`.

we've got a guy like that in the US that you probably know of: trayvon bromell. he set the world junior record in 2014 for 100m, and now he should be competing in Rio @ 100m & 200m, i think.. very unassuming build as well (like hale).

Bromell is in another league compared to this kid. Australia has some good U20 sprinters atm. Josh Clarke is 20 years old so doesn't count as an U20, but he recently ran a 10.16. Hale ran a 10.21 and fellow 18 year old sprinter Trae Williams ran 10.27 a few months back as well. Hopefully at least 1 of them can go on to break sub 10.

Weddings are the best! Great food and unlimited drinks. Great way to meet new people. I got my current job through talking to a business owner at a wedding I went to a couple of years ago.

Bodyweight- 87.1

Cardio-
Going running after drinking coffee and eating a triple cheese burger was a bad idea!

4x200m with 5 minutes rest each set.
Each set was sub 31 seconds.
I didn't feel anything in my legs it was just my lungs and McDonald's after taste which was the problem. Felt dead after the 4th set. I'd like to build up to 6x200m before I start increasing the pace.

Also the grass track that I run on is currently in terrible condition because it's the middle of winter so nobody maintains it and the grass is all patchy and overgrown. #firstworldproblems
If I had a truck I would take my lawn mower and mow 1 of the lanes.

That's good that you didn't get any hip pain with the squats. The wrist is probably just a niggle that should feel better by the next time you bench.

Basketball / Re: NBA Trade Talk

Yeah I am very bearish on Thon Maker. Players like him just can't stay on the court...plus competitive play issues (i.e. the Dante Exum situation). Hasn't played in very high levels of competition and as a result is probably overrated. He's getting massive hype over here now, of course. They're showing footage of him barely jumping doing a dunk drill and the news anchors are just going overboard over it.

On vertical/reach discrepancies, read this:

http://www.nbadraft.net/2016-nba-draft-combine-athleticism-test-analysis

They calculate their max vertical from their previously reported reaches, which were done incorrectly apparently.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes.

From his point of view I think it was a very smart decision going straight for the NBA because if he goes to college and doesn't perform/gets exposed then it's career over. He goes to the NBA and becomes a bust well he's already made US$3million as a first round draft pick. If you're spending that much money on a player you're going to do everything in your power to develop him and make him become an asset, which sort of negates the 'should play college to develop' argument.

I don't follow the NBA much, but I certainly haven't heard much about Dante Exum. Playing with a team like Utah, which doesn't get much publicity doesn't do much to help his cause either.

110x3 repeated my 3RM PR that I did a couple of days ago because I wanted to get a recording of it. It felt a bit tougher than 2 days ago, but that's because I only gave myself 2 days before benching again. Hopefully this weight will start to feel light soon.

Cardio-
1100 skips

5x100m ME with 5 minute recovery

1x100m- 11.9
1X100M- 11.8
1X100M- 11.7
1X100M- untimed
1x100m- untimed

The tailwind was very strong, which is why the times were decent.
I didn't time the last 2 100s because I didn't want to hold the stopwatch.

I've run 11.37 FAT but considering I'm currently sitting at around 22% bodyfat I was pleased with the times. I was tempted to run some hill sprints because my body was feeling good, but i didn't want to push it too much and jinx myself.

On an unrelated note I have 2 cars, which are being an absolute headfuck for me atm. Thousands of $$$ down the drain just fixing these bitches, which I need for me and my girlfriend to get to work everyday since we both live long distances away from our workplaces. I ended up going through with that real estate purchase, which I was worrying about earlier in my journal so atm money is really tight. Lucky running is free and something that I enjoy.

I'll be honest I'm a bit skeptical that your 22% bf... But that said I don't see why you can't get into the 170s with your current strength levels and run really fast... I think your probably have similar ceiling to me and if u get in shape could be just as fast and probably run higher

I'm skinny fat right now. I'm 88kg (195lbs) and have a 38 inch waist, which is terrible. When I started this journal 8 months ago I was weighing 96kg (211lbs) with a 43 inch waist, which put me at 30% bodyfat.
http://clymer.altervista.org/bmi/

My ceiling would be a lot less than yours. Running mid 10's FAT is way beyond my expectations. I'd be happy to get to high 10s FAT and the only reason I think I can get to that is because NCAA females and professional female track athletes can run sub 11's and sub 22's. Realistically it would be an achievement if I could go sub 11.5 FAT and sub 23 FAT in the 100 and 200 respectively within the next 12 months.

BW:80.1kg / 176.59lb (LPR)

Ok so this is the lowest ive weighed since coming home. But ive been eating like shit lately. hotdogs, meatballs, loads of chips/fries and last night m&ms. I think ive been grieving the end of a promising relationship even before it blossomed. She went MIA since the weekend and she hasnt been returning my messages. I take the writing on the wall for what it is, occam's razor doesn't permit any other interpretation at this juncture. I knida know that im not going to find someone else like her unless i leave this city for greener pastures. So it's loss in the sense of what it means in the long term. I am going to end it with the younger girl too, i dont want to lead her on, theres no future there, 9 years is a huge gap. So yeah single again. Time to turn to training to fill the void. I'm back on the chicken breast and oatmeal wagon as of today!

Sorry it didn't work out.

Props for your attitude though. Straight back into training instead of moping around feeling sorry for yourself. You'll find the right lady.

Still got the speed! Good motivation to drop some weight?

Congrats on being a home owner at least. Pretty hard lately for young people to get a foot in.

Thanks acole!

In the last couple of weeks I've been really motivated with the gym. Once I start doing running it becomes addictive so I've been eating cleaner and reducing my alcohol consumption.

I just feel as though I’ve got a lot of potential, which I’m not making the most of. Even when I ran the 11.37 I was still sitting at 14% bodyfat due to poor diet and lifestyle choices so if I can ever manage to get to sub 10% body fat I should be running some fast times e.g. sub 11 FAT. It’s a lot easier said than done though, which is obviously why I've failed to attain that level.

House prices in Australia are crazy, but living in Adelaide the prices are a lot more affordable than in Melbourne & Sydney. While interest rates are low I’m just trying to pay off as much as possible.
