I use 5lb little plates under the heels, makes the squat feel much more natural. I saw it on a Youtube vid about Arnold, he was using a 2x4. Just my .02

Interesting read Coges! Ive read about the first/second sleep before seems like our kids do it very naturally lol!

Sadly I fall into the 'insomniac, stop thinking' category. I have gotten 6 hours each of the last two nights so thats a positive.  :)

Right now I only do one training session per week to stay decently sharp and its always solo. Theres something about being out there alone and feeling like I'm improving when no one else is that feels good. That being said the key is to not let it get boring, always challenge yourself with varying drills, always practice for your game/gameplan, always 'overspeed' train and (again) don't get bored!

If you find your training boring switch it up because you'll lose focus and that's detrimental. Hoisting 1000 stationary jumpers will make you good at shooting spot up jumpers. Practice how you play. I try to keep my session at90 mins or less and train everything at once handles, moves and shot are each involved in every drill (sans warmups). I pick and choose my 'spots' that I normally get scoring opportunities and spend a majority of my time attacking those areas and spend a little time on other areas like post up scenarios just to round out my game.

Thats just what has worked for me but the few friends Ive trained have all noticed transformations in their games since training like this versus their 'normal' boring jack up a bunch of shots then work on handles then this type training.

I've got 26 years of it to overcome lol! But I strongly feel like this is an important piece of the puzzle I'm missing. I didn't notice it much before the last 6 weeks but I hadn't lifted like I have been. The last two weeks I've just felt something missing and this may be it. Worth a shot if anything!

Lol!

Nice SVJ! Especially on sub optimum legs!

I've always found the best way to get in shape for basketball is to simply play ball.

Other than that make all your practice sessions/drills harder than a game situation and do them at 150% speed. Games will feel slower and you'll execute much better also.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got 7 hours last night (which is probably the most in months) by forcing myself to bed earlier. I dont feel any different yet but I'm betting I wont notice the extra sleep until later today or even until a few straight days of more sleep. I'll continue to try and get 7ish amd see how it goes.

Yep. I used to do that and over the years I've been able to learn how to force myself to sleep but I still average 4 hours of sleep per day. A good day will see me sleep 6ish hours.

Not sure where to ask this but I'll try here :)

How much sleep do you guys get on average per night (or day KF lol)? I know I don't get enough as I'm a borderline insomniac but I was curious as to how much your lack of sleep affects your recovery times. Does it matter if its all at once or broken up? Can you sleep too much?

I've done a little reading on REM sleep and the like but would like to hear from your guys actually experiences.

Sat Aug 31 2013

Bodyweight 173-175lbs
Energy: begin high, bottomed out halfway into workout. Late night at gym and killer day at work zapped me. Damn.
Good focus tho, worked around the energy issue for a decent session.
Soreness/injuries: left knee bugged a little during Jump squats, weird, seems ok tho. Low back was stiff (but not sore?) All night.

Warmup + jumps

Deficit deads:
225x5 275x1 315x1 345x1, 315x5 x3, 315x3 225x5. Bah. Not real happy.

Jump squats:
50lbs x3, x3. BW x5.

Ham curls:
120lbs x6, x6.  60lbs x 16. High rep felt weird, I like!

Chest/tricep/core stability circuit (didn't finish ran out of time bleh).

That finishes my 6 week cycle, I made it but damn I can feel my body breaking down each day the last week or so. Going to take Mon and Tues off and play ball Wed and Thurs then begin peaking/quickness/whatever crap next Friday. Going to play that by feel then take a week off and deload. Time to cultivate this shit!!! Wooooo! :)

Friday Aug 30 2013

Bodyweight: 173-176lbs. I've been slacking on my eating, too much cheating.
Energy: very good. Last squat session of this cycle! Woot!!
Focus: the same, great.

Warmup and jumps

Banded squats:
225x5 275x1 315x1 375x1, 375x1 325x5 x5, 325x5 275x5. Good focus makes these so much easier!

Paused calf raises:
610lbs x8, x8, x8.

Hypers:
3 sets of 10.

lunges:
80lb total x4 each leg.

Back/bicep/heavy core circuits. Abs....hurt. ughhh lol!

Pretty good shootaround as a cool down.

one more session tonight. Gotta hit my numbers!

Nice going Entropy! Your analysis would explain the GCT, heel to toe is bound to add significant GCT!

1394
True but if he can add another 3-6" on box height and have close to the same GCT/not crumple then his RFD should go up. Just an observation.  I always try to find a middle ground between GCT and a box thats too high and I crumple, invariably after a while my GCT get better and I go up a few inches on the box.

1395
Have you thought about doing the depth jumps from a higher box?
