Adarq, this is what I have . see if u are interested.

http://birthdayshoes.com/new-balance-hi-rez-minimus-review

this is as close as bare foot.. even more bare than my 5 fingers... (less protection and shock absorbion...)

those are nice! i've seen the hi-rez, never knew anyone had any minimus's on here.

how do you like them? what do you do in them?

might have to get myself some of the NB trails. thanks for the reviews!

np

For an all around shoe similar to nike zoom waffle racers, xc900 v2's are definitely them.

I actually feel more comfortable in my nb minimus trail's than those nb minimus zero v2's.

with all that soreness why aren't you foam rolling man? it's a lifesaver to me

lazyness unfortunately.. i think.

i used to be able to roll with pvc.. it band pvc without pain. took a long time to get there but when i did daaym, must have worked out so many wrecked spots in the fascia.

quick logging, 2 sessions

01/29/2015

bw = 177
soreness = left calf, quads, hamstrings

felt achy today.

Morning: Session: jog & sprint, jump, jog & sprint

3 mi jog/sprint:
- got some nice sprints in

jumps: very light
- did a few slrvj for rim touch but barely tried to jump
- then started doing some distance SLRVJ's not going for rim touch, just coming in from a longer approach at more speed and jumping for distance.. was fun

.4 mi jog/sprint

Evening Session: jog

3.4 mi jog:
- tried to jog at a consistent faster pace, decent
- foot strike was nice.. jumping may be helping with this

I need to eventually find some measurements for PR's other than jumps, since i'm not going to hit the weights like I used to.

There is a great idea to achieve that.
Change your mind and go hit the weights like you used to.
:wowthatwasnutswtf: :-*

ha. good point.. tho, want to focus on some other stuff this time, we'll see.

weight: 178
soreness: right quad (damn wtf), left calf, left bicep

still sore wtf.

Session was pretty good. Eventually i'll get to throw in some hardcore reactive work. I'm going to give myself an incentive and say, no reactive work until I hit 169.

Session: jog, jump, and sprint

shoes: nb xc900 v2

Jog/Sprint: ~0.75 mi
- jog to court
- ~5-10 yd sprints mixed in

Jump: About 10 each leg
- Decent. Felt good in the new shoes.
- Didn't get to do my 'just beyond 3-point line' runups because portions of the court were wet.
- L-SLRVJ: 124-125" on max touch. ~123" avg
- R-SLRVJ: 120" on max touch. :personal-record:

Jog/Sprint: ~3 mi
- ~5-10 yd sprints mixed in

Throughout the day:
- Lots of stretching. Feeling very light/loose, but much work is left to be done.
- Must be careful not to injure myself stretching (ie rip something). It's happened before.
- By far the biggest problem area I have, are my adductors. Very tight. It's been this way since I was perhaps 11 years old or so. Lost my flexibility 'out of nowhere'.

I'm just going to stick "PR" next to my R-SLRVJ. I've never been able to get too high off my right leg, so i dno, seems like a "recent PR" or maybe a PR historically. which is nutty.

I need to eventually find some measurements for PR's other than jumps, since i'm not going to hit the weights like I used to.

word. might pick up a pair in that case. i've been enjoying jumping in my super-light tennis shoes but maybe it's time to start experimenting with racers again.

nice!

yea those tennis shoes looked nice, the lottos.. I was on the verge of buying a pair of those and the adidas adios's but I found these and just went with it. uber-light shoes make me want to do athletic stuff. Still to this day, the best jogging i've ever experienced was in vibram's, which was intense as fu*k. Best jumping was/is in NZWR's. Best sprinting in NZWR's. Although, sprinting in vibram's felt pretty dope, could feel myself getting pull with my toes. Just can't be that safe.

i did hit my all-time PR in xc flats.

what kind of xc flats were they again?

but nzwrs were/are too narrow for my feet and not generous enough in the toe box to accommodate my arthritic toes. :-[

ah.. these may be SLIGHTLY wider than NZWR's. Maybe not too much to be noticeable.

wearing shoes like this (& vibram) just make me feel so good when training. :wowthatwasnutswtf:

The Minimus look so awesome

ya.

both shoes look dope as fuq. xc900's have serious swag.

you're not worried about those little nubs when you jump in the xc900s?

nah, that stuff grinds down fast.. pretty similar to NZWR's.

just got done jumping in them this morning, couldn't even notice the nubs. Shoes were solid, loved em`. Felt a bit intense on the bottom of my heel but that's pretty much expected. Much less intense than jumping in the minimus's. I can see myself getting in some hard jump sessions with these on hard court. They'd be perfect in that gym I used to jump in. Also jogging/sprinting felt great.

I imagine if I just jumped with them, they'd last longer since i'm SLRVJ'n now which has less 'torque' in the plant. But, i'm also sprinting/jogging with these shoes so they should get beaten down fairly fast. Curious to see how they hold up.

COLD AS F**K THIS MORNING. For Floridians, 50* F is freezing. Wasn't expecting it so I had to battle it a bit.

weight: 178
soreness: right quad, left bicep, left hamstring
stretching: lots! stretching brings out some old injuries (which are actually stretching related, lmao.. so have to be careful). Feel very loose/light lately.

Session: Jog & Sprint

Run: ~3.4 mi
- Only ~10 sprints mixed in.

Hoping to get some jumps in tomorrow. I have a slight plan with the 'bodyweight training' portion of the workouts. Basically, I'll try to get several jog/sprint/jump days done. Once I feel 100% recovered, following that specific workout, i'll do the bodyweight training exercises (which have wrecked me lately).

So, the other part of that is the combined jog/sprint/jump days. I'd like to get some work in for those 3 particular movements, each session, to varying degrees. One sessions might be more jog dominated than the other.. One more jump oriented etc. But every session incorporates something from each movement.

That will be possible if these shoes I just received, allow me to max SLRVJ.

Sounds fun tbh..

We want a shoe review as soon as possible :P

Let's see if those image links work.

NB xc900 v2's feel fairly amazing so far. Immediately can feel the similarity between them & nike zoom waffle racers. These actually seem lighter (feather light, 4-5oz). As to whether or not i'll be able to max RVJ in them, not sure yet. I predict i'll be able too. They are stronger than both of my nb minimus shoes (and i've jumped on the minimus trails). So, I imagine they will feel like waffle racers. They look ridiculous too, love em`. Feel very springy in them. Also, very comfortable just walking around. You get big toe push off fairly ez.

The plan is to be able to jog, sprint, and jump all wearing these shoes. I can't do that in my minimus shoes (too intense) or basketball shoes (too heavy/clunky, hyperdunks).

As for the NB minimus zero v2's, they feel slightly heavier than the xc900's. The sole feels similar to the touch, but once you put them on, it's obvious they are vibram's. They aren't comfortable like the xc900's, but that's how they are supposed to be. Intense shoes for sure. Will be good to walk around in at work perhaps. They feel more intense than my NB minimus trails, so right from the getgo I doubt i'd ever jump in these shoes. It would be like jumping barefoot on concrete.

Also, here are my NB minimus trails that I've been running in:

So far, perhaps the most durable shoes i've ever worn. The build is so rugged. The bottom of the sole still looks fairly new and i've put in some decent mileage on concrete/pavement with them. The fabric seems stitched/sown in durably as well. They are intense so jogging/walking in them would be ideal. Sprinting/jumping is risky. No idea how you would run/sprint on trails with rocks etc because you can really feel it through the sole. Very good shoes though, love em`.

still sore... HEH! lots of stretching today, tomorrow I think i'll be able to get a run in.

Eating really good lately. Seems like i'm becoming consistent across the board.

yep that's what i meant. why are you doing a 1RM in running shoes?

Yeah, that is a bad idea...that max strength day should not be with running shoes. foolish choice.. no jumping or high impact lift is include in that day anyway.

btw, here is a pic to record my Frog jump Improvement:

and a respond from Jack himself worth noting:
Quote
1) Each ground contact is 1 rep. So it is basically 5 x 1 hop left and i hop right.
2) That is ok to do that with the rack pull. As long as you are focusing on contracting the glutes hard on the lift it is fine.
3) I just watched your video (you are the video king by the way). Your plyo lunge is fine as it is. It is just as much about absorbing the eccentric forces as it is about low ground contact time. The plyo lunge helps build eccentric strength which when done without the weihgt will mean quicker grount contact times.
4) At your strength levels working up to a 1Rm max squat is going to be counterproductive. Firstly, you are already very strong relative to your bodyweight. 1RM work, particularly at the loads you are lifting is going to drain your CNS. A strong guy such as yourself doing a 1Rm of near 400lb is much more taxing to you than a weak guy doing 1RM work of 150lb. The 150lb 1RM guy will bounce back quicker even if that is his 1RM. A 400lb 1RM is much more taxing than a 150lb RM even if though they both represent someones 1RM. I am not sure I have explained that very well but I think you get what I mean. Doing heavy 1RM work will absolutely drain your recuperative energies and your CNS when you simply don't need to focus on max strength anymore. Maintain strength yes, but focus on power. I love to lift heavy too, but for jumping, it is very much a case of diminishing returns. I would stick to the sub-maximal day I prescribed so as to maintain without the stress to your joints or CNS.
5) tuck jump instead of box jump is fine. Really, it is just about getting jumping stimulus. I don't believe there is any magic jumping combination that creates freakish gains, there is just sensible progression and consistent application of effort towards your goal. If you want to jump high you need to jump with maximum effort and do it regularly. The plyo and jumping drills allow you to do that without killing your joints like the dunk practice does.

So i guess no more 1RM attempt....

whoa you touched rim off that frog jump now? impressive.

I've never frog jumped. I can't even imagine how to do it. Seems like a great jumping drill though for SVJ or even broad jump.

good stuff!

one problem is figuring out how to load MEBM squats.

Generally you would hit 20 with your 10-12RM. So, start a bit lighter than your 12RM. Twenty with your 10RM is the golden nugget, but 12RM is fine too. You want to adapt completely to this type of squatting, ie, minimal to no soreness the next day. May take a few sessions.

I need to check that routine you posted, might be some areas that can be shifted around to give a bit more rest. Perhaps cutting out Tuesday's AM jump workout so you're a bit more rested for Wednesday's AM jump training. That Sun/Mon sequence is going to be intense.

pc man!

edit: Very important, forgot to mention this. Before each of your most intense squat efforts (MEBM, MSEM), try and create some kind of bridge between jumping and preparation for squatting. No need to do this on submax effort sets/reps etc. Save this for when you are about to perform a set/rep of significant effort which requires deeper breathing, focus, etc. I used to always think about jumping before these efforts and change my breathing, usually 3 deep breathes (into chest), saying "let's go", dropping a few F bombs. I just remembered I blogged about this long ago: http://www.adarq.org/performance-training-blog/making-progress-mind-muscle-link/

Basically it just comes down to trying to tie the CNS arousal of heavy lifting to your DLRVJ sessions. You use the same thought process, breathing, pacing, or even a clap to initiate the trigger.

Boxing / Re: alvarado vs rios 3 - one sided
« on: January 25, 2015, 12:53:43 pm »
dno.. devon alexander isn't much of a threat. golovkin definitely is.

I think the only real competition out there for Mayweather Jr. is Ward. That'd be a huge risk for pbf. Pacquiao is obviously somewhat risky but I think size/style/matchup-wise pbf wouldn't be that threatened. Someone should slap him in the face for not making that fight already.

I think anyone who chases mayweather around the ring is going to lose. Only way to beat him is to out-chess him in the counterpunching/defense portion of the game. That's why I think Ward would be the biggest threat - his size helps too. PBF loves to go backward and counter/slip punches. Every fighter out there plays right into his trap & then he easily beats you on the score cards. He makes you worried to punch.

That's the beauty of mayweather style though. It is effective against every style other than his own. Need someone with a similar style and a real mastery of the sweet science to turn it into a real chess match.

You can see here, even in his 1-sided destruction of gatti, what he prefers to do in the ring:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5q57ZboGw0

PBF is always the "snake charmer", in every fight. All of his opponents come in as the cobra; acting vicious, always ready to attack, throwing punches for punches sake. For someone to beat him it would be an incredibly "boring fight" from an action perspective. Snake charmer vs snake charmer.
