You know you listen to 2 much hip hop when somebody mentions Brooklyn and your first thought is Jay Z.

The training facilities in the US look great. How's the food over there? Is it true that all the portion sizes are huge? Which city are you heading to next?

You know you don't listen to enough hip hop when someone mentions Brooklyn and your first is anyone other than Biggie.  Lol.

Portion sizes being huge... Lol.  Kinda a myth. Maybe slightly larger at some places but nothing crazy for the most part.  Especially in the cities you visit - LA, NYC, DC - you are not going to be shocked at the portions if someone takes you out to. Decent restaurant...

However there is one exception... We have a certain class of chain restaurants with names like  claimjumpers, Fridays, etc.   These restaurants have shockingly huge portions.   It's nuts.  I went to one of these in a CA suburb where they listed calories and I tried to imagine the worst meal possible it was a appetizer, meal, desert combo where you could go cheese sticks, Alfredo pasta, massive brownie sundae...  No lie, this would net you 2000, 3500, and 2000 for a total of almost 8000 cals (I'm sure you could ask for some ranch sauce to hit 8000).   And that's without drinks!  Throw in some sugary lemonade and you can get a 10k cal meal at these places!

Thing is if u visit urban centers in cities these places are really rare and almost extinct.... However the occupy space in every large strip mall all across America...  So basically American restaurants sometimes have massive portions but visitors are disappointed because no where worth going is going to have anything like the suburbs...

Who told you that doing static hamstring stretches makes you slower??

Never listen to that person again.

A lot of static hamstring stretching BEFORE a race will result in a slower time... Although that might not even be true in your case if your extremely tight...

Neutral isn't relative.  You can't say that's what neutral looks like for me.

The reason straps are important is because they allow you to keep your "neutral" back... Basically when we set up w the bar we get in a good position.  Then for many athletes they begin to pull and the slack from the arms goes away before the bar comes off the ground and suddenly they are fully rounded back... Hand slack from lack of straps just makes this worse...

You actually don't want to have your back be that mobile if your a power athlete... Here is a good mobility test...

Stand up and keep your knees straight and push your butt back and try to touch the floor with your hands - like an RDL it straight legged deadlift... Let yourself relax into the stretch, even hold Dumbbells to add to it...

Your probably can't... It requires hamstring flexibility with tight and and back... Most can't touch the ground but some get close...

Now let your back relax and fold over and try and touch the ground... You will be able to get lower.  For a good athlete they can get damn near close to the ground on the first stretch but not much further on the second...

what adarq said. your form is a little scary: lower back too rounded throughout the movement. starting from blocks is a good idea because you're so tall. no shame in that game, you're not trying to compete in PL so who cares? also, on the descent, you stop lowering your hips about halfway down and just lower the bar with your back; that's kind of a quasi-straight-leg-DL and you don't have the mobility to do it safely. but the bigger problem is the lack of back/core strength and hip mobility to maintain proper form.

What he said.

Also... My back rounds on heavy dls too... It happens...

But at least start the lift with a flat back!  Your not even starting in neutral!  If it rounds later ok...

Also are you using straps?  I would... Neglect grip to save your back...

Women are just idiots. Proven to me again and again and again and.... you get the idea... waaaaaaaaaay too many times.

Prisons are full of males.  Wars are started by males.  If Donald Trump becomes the next president of the US it will be because of the male vote and not the female vote.  Women do better with less opportunity and face a hostile work environment and discrimination in what was a male dominated workforce...

And since the topic is about being overweight... Men in America on average have a bmi of almost 30 and bodyfat above 20%...  They are on average fatter than women despite far less predisposition to store fat, and no biological excuse to need to gain weight (childbirth)...

Id say the evidence is pretty strong that the average guy is far stupider than the average women...  If women are idiots.... I don't know what the hell men are!

Where are you getting your sources about the average man in America having a BMI of approximately 30 and being 20%+ bodyfat?

For the average sedentary male if they have a BMI of 30 they are going to be a lot closer to 30%+ bodyfat then they are to 20%.

Edit-I found a source comparing the average Australian man to the average American man.
http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/fashion/this-is-what-mr-average-australia-looks-like-20141028-11cyp9.html

"Rather, he stands at 175.6 centimetres tall and weighs in at 85.9 kilograms. This gives Jack a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 putting him squarely in the middle of the overweight category and a few kgs shy of the medically defined obesity range.
Jack is shorter, but slightly leaner than Todd though - the average American man, whose BMI is 29, one below obese and who is 176.4".

Your bmi estimate is 29 mine was 30 so I think our sources are pretty similar... It varies somewhat based on age and bodyfat really is hard to get a handle on...

I threw in the bodyfat number because for our little physiology lab I remember the average for males being 20 something...  Good correction though, I could be wrong - I did make the cardinal sin of mixing sources.  The BMI of 30 is from demographic data from all of America while the bodyfat data is what I recall seeing as the male average at the USC lab...

However I could go all Raptor on you and say that I said 20+ and your are saying it's closer to 30 BUT 30 IS 20+!

Lol.  Seriously I'm not too sure about bodyfat data - it's much harder to calculate than bmi...  If the average American has bmi 30 and the majority of those have bmi 30 and BF of 30 there are those whole are bmi 30 and BF 10 (like myself) so the BF would get pulled down slightly by athletes where bmi would not...

I looked at the BF calculator link you use and I think it does rely on waist measurement far too much.... I mean waist size is a combination of fat, bone structure, and oblique and abdominal musculature...  I would take those measurements with a large grain of salt... Calculator doesn't seem to give me good scores at least lol.  My leanest was 188 with a ~32 inch waist (BF 5%) while I was close to 10% at 206 and waist size ~33.  I think your bodyfat calculator gives me lower BF for the second data... Sure I only gained an inch of waist while gaining 18lbs but some of that is muscle and a lot is fat I just don't store on my waist...

disagree slightly with t0ddday. squats are GPP. i don't see why doing them in one kind of shoe or another would have more carryover to athletic movements. i can't squat deep without squatting shoes but if squats are just a part, rep- and effort-wise, of my training then what's the problem? i dunno, seems like the kind of false-carryover thinking that maxent would go for.

also not sure where he's getting the evidence for squat shoes causing tendinopathy.

I agree that squats are GPP strength work.  That's why my recommendation was to do ADE work (pistols, shrimps, dorsiflexion mobility, etc) in bare feet and do your heavy squats in whatever shoes you like.  However...

I'm not arguing that squatting heavy in one shoe vs the another has more carryover to athletic movement but what I am reminding you of is that a lot of self trained athletes do neglect their mobility work, their flexibility, prehab, etc...  And while it's not a substitute for it - the warmup and squatting in barefeet or flat soles is better than nothing...

For example, I remember seeing the lifters at Broz gym warmup... It was amazing.  Barefoot broomstick work.  These guys could sit in a deep squat and move the bar to front rack, over head, back rack, all while walking in a deep squat, shifting weight to one foot, moving hips back and forth with tremendous range of motion.  This was their squat warmup and it didn't involve lifting shoes because it was designed as a hip opener and ankle mobility exercise... After this the lifters put on shoes and worked up to heavy triples of 2x body weight followed by a ridiculous amount of heavy doubles and singles...

My point is that if we take a weekend warrior and he isn't conscious of this - and he puts his oly shoes on before he gets to the gym and does all his workout in them he is going to be reducing his ankle and hip mobility over time...

This leads to my point about Achilles tendinitis.  Again, sure if we are a disciplined athlete we are doing our Achilles and calf prehab and we don't need to rely on squats and squat warmup for this... But is this really true for everyone?

As far as evidence about oly shoes and Achilles problems.  I'm not sure of any scientific evidence.  But there is a wealth of evidence about women wearing heeled shoes and Achilles problems.  Especially women who wear high heels for everything but jogging...

Given that evidence I don't think it's a stretch to believe that the anecdotal evidence I have is worth following...

Imagine you work a desk job and sit all day.  Your main exercise is at the gym where you do cross fit or something that involves squats and for it you put on your oly shoes... This is your main exercise.  Then you also try to add in running of some type.  I wouldn't be surprised if you are more likely to suffer Achilles problems in this case than if you did your gym work without oly shoes....  If your job is sendentary and your main training is at the gym then you basically have your Achilles moving between inactive sitting and very shortened with your heel raise...

Now you throw on spikes and sprint?  Or go run on the beach?  Not wise.  I mean look at the poster alestor who wears elavator shoes to make himself taller and has Achilles problems... Raising your heel shortens your tendon... That's a fact.  I'm not saying it's dangerous to do once.  Or dangerous to do it while squatting... But if your not aware of it and don't do anything to give it length it could be dangerous...

Good question.  I don't know how well ecigs are tracks but tobacco use has been trending down steadily for a long time and I'm pretty sure while some of the recent trend down might be false cause of the uptake of ecigs I don't think all of it is a result of ecigs... The experts seem pretty confident that it's down overall... Under 20% of adults report being tobacco users which is pretty low considering it was close to half in the 1960s...

ye, pogba got up high, they measured it up to 9'06" high.
He is 6'3 giving him a vert of 39" i think.

but the other goals were also good, it shows how bad england were but iceland managed to get 2 goals.
looking forward to wales vs portugal

Who measured it to 9'6". ?

Lol.  That's ridiculous.  If you ever played soccer you know the art of getting up on a header has to do with vertical leap than skill and body control with contact... The little shoulder contact is everything...

Lol at Andrews ice cream addiction.  I have the same affliction.  Want to quit but it is a nice comeback for when people "fit shame" me by telling me I must not eat at all or I must not enjoy life to remind them that I eat ice cream at least 5 times a week and could put ice cream eat any of them under the table...

"Fit shaming" and "dad bod" and the idea that being fit is a sign of shallowness or a life not enjoyed is really frustrating.  At this point I don't lift weights.  I hardly train.  The only difference w me and most fat people is I used to train a lot, I don't spend most weekends drinking craft beer, I play flag football twice a week and basketball once a week and I don't eat breakfast or lunch most days at work because those meals are a waste of time...  yet I'm shamed for being muscular all the time and told I should enjoy myself more and have a beer...

One question I have is "is shaming ever ok?"

I'm not sure what my answer is to this question but IMO it might be worth a try to treat obesity like smoking.

I mean the job this country has done with the public health system as far as smoking is amazing.  We haven't restricted freedom, we haven't banned cigarettes or told people they can't smoke.  We have taxed them a bit.  And we have undertaken a massive campaign to "shame" smokers.  Can't smoke in bars, can't smoke in restaurants, can't smoke on planes.   Just in my lifetime I can remember when I had family members that identified as smokers...

Now I literally know nobody that is a smoker.  Sure I know tons of people that smoke cigarettes - but I know nobody who proudly identifies as a cigarette smoker.  It's just not a point of pride.  It might be something people do when they are stressed, something they do when they go out and drink, but not something people bring to work because they don't really want their boss and coworkers seeing them smoke.   I think it's been handled quite well... Smoking is down in this country.  That's good for public health.  It's still legal which is good for free choices.  But it's a thing that people know is a bad habit and those who smoke a cigarette or two or 20 know that it's probably something they should quit...  Given this you don't have people mounting campaigns for smokers rights because rather than do this they know the better choice is quitting...

What's crazy is that fatness is becoming an identity.  You might read a political article about someone's perspective as an "Asian female".  I get it.  I'm not Asian or female, they can't really choose this and this identity therefore might be a point of pride and be respected.  With the exception of expensive surgery this is essentially an immutable part of ones identity - your gender and your race...

But now I have seen articles where issues are examined from the perspective of a fat person!  Fatness is not some immutable characteristic!  What's next - articles from the perspective of a tired person???   I don't get it.  I don't get this new fat and healthy claim that isn't supported by evidence...  Fat people are skinny people who have over consumed... They are not a different group of people whose rights should be protected!

A bit bout the guy, i havent got stats yet but will get some soon. He's young, raw and athletic, bout 6ft maybe as low as 5'10" im not good at judging heights. he can barely touch the rim, says he cant currently. Weighs 80kg. Strong, not fat, not skinny. Im pretty confident he'll be dunking one day.. hopefully we can figure it out!

Oh and btw new LPR on the scales, 78.8kg .. which came out of the blue on morning of day 9. So im doing well ... 77.5kg shud def be manageable within the allocated 21 days. Then im gonna stop cutting and recomp.

If he is 6 foot, strong, not fat, young and athletic....

Then he could touch the rim.

Good luck.  Every project is different... This ones sounds hard.

squats look good. i disagree slightly with leonel: chucks are okay if you like 'em and i don't think the instability in your vid is that bad. but i'm a weightlifting shoe guy forever.

I don't thnk it's that important the shoes you wear...   I think you should actually spend a bit of time in barefeet as well.

Weightlifting shoes can be somewhat of a crutch IMO.  And they 100% contribute to achilles tendonitis.  I loved them and had some adistars and some of the Nike ones with the high heel.  The only thing I didn't like was that my shin flexibility is pretty bad and the really high heel allowed me to basically hide this.  I could semi-pistol squat at one point in my oly shoes and this is not something I am even close to pulling off in real life...  When I was really into oly squatting I could dip explosively to a full squat and explode out with a lot of weight even though I couldn't do this without oly shoes without falling over...

Spend some time squatting in the same shoes you jump in... Although not the same PAIR (the same shoes)... Squats will ruin your shoes.

I have a pair of ball shoes that I don't use for balling due to them being so heavy so I may squat in them.

Also what are your thoughts on squatting barefoot? I predominantly train at home now so this isn't an issue.

I'm not really too picky with my athletes as far as squatting barefoot, chucks, oly shoes, etc.  What's most important is that you wear what your comfortable in...

However dependence on any type of footwear is not a good thing...  So if you can squat 405 in your oly shoes but can't even sit in a deep squat barefoot we have a problem...  I think this can be addressed in your almost ever day work...  Gear up for the gym however you need but do your pistols, shrimp squats, etc in bare feet every so often...

Nothing wrong with using whatever gear you need especially for non sports specific work - but your a dunker so if you can't wear it when dunking then make sure it's not dramatically effecting the movement.  That's my bottom line.

Also raised heel is really hell for the Achilles... Be aware of that... Track work and raised heel squats are a dangerous combo...

Also.... While I do stand by my support of players to play wherever they want - hypocrisy is a bitch and in the age of Twitter when everything is saved durant deserves some shade in light of what he said in 2010 when the lakers got Dwight and Nash and the Cavs got Lebron:

Durant on twitter:
"Now everybody wanna play for the heat and the Lakers? Let’s go back to being competitive and going at these peoples!"

Lol.

Seriously while the Warriors won 73 games let's not forget they were not truly dominant ever in the postseason...  Really the last team that was semi dominant post season dynasty was the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe and the last truly dominant team was the Bulls three peat...  I mean yeah he is joining the better team but truly joining the winners would be joining the Bulls in the off season before 96-97.  That was a team everyone knew would win... Hasn't been like that of late for anybody...

I mean Warriors won a lot but were down 2-1 in the finals when they won... Cavs won but were down 3-1.  Warriors had two game sevens.  The NBA only has five guys and so many shots to go around... So yeah the Warriors are way better and it's hard for me to imagine them losing but adding Durant is not purely additive and we should remember that... I mean Harrison Barnes is gone but his usage rate is half of KDs...

Vegas has the Warriors at 4-5 which is crazy because I can't remember seeing a favorite with a negative payout ever (tried to google Bulls but couldn't find it) but I'd say that's about right... Warriors are a 60% chance to win finals... That's good but it's not like KD just joined a team where they are given a ring... He will have to work hard and will deserve credit if they win it all... In the NBA talent gets you there easily but winning a ring is never easy or predestined (unless your the Bulls with Rodman Pippen and Jordan).

What bothers me is the tons of people that criticize Durant. "He chose the easy path" and so on. Fuck off. He was presented with an opportunity and he took that opportunity. That's it. He would've been an idiot to ignore it.

"Honor" and stuff like that are just words for fools. In life, you take the best opportunities and you roll with them. It's better to be sorry for what you did than be sorry for what you didn't, or the opportunity that you didn't take.

This is just business, and he's maximizing his chances of winning. Simple.

With the exception of your last sentence I want to agree 100% with your post... The last sentence about business doesn't really make sense to me...  Usually when we players say it's just business it's usually about money...  Like when Byron maxwell went to the Eagles and admitted "I was going to sign w whoever paid me the most..."  I had no problem with his straight up honesty...  It's just business and he maximized the money he can make in a very dangerous sport.  Great for him.  No shade.

However, this isn't business.  This is life.  KD has tons of money.  NBA is way safer and he has ridiculous endorsements.  Maybe he wants to win.  Maybe he wants to have fun.  Maybe he just wants to live in the Bay Area in California instead of shitty Oklahoma.  Who cares.  He wants to play in golden state cause that's what makes him happy and I have zero problem with that.  I mean as long as what makes him happy isn't seeing people get punched in the nuts up close (lol jk) then why should anyone have a problem with it - he feels like he is happier going to GSW so he does... Fine by me.  Probably winning has something to do with it but even if he made the decision soley based on California vs Oklahoma why should anyone care or hate on him for it?  I turned down a much better job in Wisconsin to stay in LA and it made me happy and if this is what he wants to do fine by me...

However...  Even though I think it's wrong... There is a little part of me that wants him to deal with some criticism because of what Lebron had to deal with... Lebron got hated so much for teaming up w Dwade (even though the heat were nothing like GSW and the Cavs nothing like OKC when he left) that it seems unfair if KD doesn't deal with it... Truthfully though I know two wrongs don't make a right so I can't criticize the move at all...  Lebron didn't deserve scorn for making his life decisions about where he plays and neither does KD...

This is interesting though for the long term...  Does this mean Klay Thompson is gone???  I mean the Warriors have done an amazingly good and lucky job with the cap - signing Steph curry to a ridiculously low contract when he had his ankle injuries right before he became MVP is what allows them to afford this move... I know it's a short deal but if they win next year - and they have to be the favorites what does this mean long term?  I mean they can't have 4 max guys right?  Steph, Klay, KD, DG...  Personally I think Klay is underrated and better overall than DG but if they let DG they will be really redundant...  I hope Klay goes to Cleveland... I am almost accepting the Warriors winning next year but hoping the year after Klay teams up w LBJ and th Cavs get it back!  That would be such a fun rivalry but I'm sure I'm looking waaaaay too far ahead... Also... That Warriors bench gonna get weak no?  Gonna be interesting to see who KD takes his shots from... Man what if he came off the bench?  Lol probably would be best for the team to have Klay or KD come off the bench but I doubt it will happen...

Day 8 is done and dusted. I had the usual shake at 3pm. Then chicken, rice, shake for dinner. I shud get to my 10 day goal weight of <79kg. And on thursday ima add eggs/toast to meal 1, which will be nice. Leaning out like you thought i wud ... call the crib, the same number same hood, its all good.

I might be training someone to dunk which is exciting .. ive never done that before. woooho.

LOL.  That big lyric.  I actually laughed out loud.  Love it. Thanks for that...

This is gonna show how old I am but in college training camp we remixed T-pains song (I'm sprung) to "I'm sore".   Lol.  A lot of downtime and soreness and smelling of bengay...

I wonder if training vacays would be a good business...  My friend worked for a company that did "adventure vacations".  Basically you fly somewhere and a lot of the vacation is dedicated to hiking or rafting or something of the sort - kinda a cool idea so you can go on vacation and not come back fat... What if there as an adult version of a two week training camp vacation...  Probably not a huge market...

LOL.  Entropy as a trainer.  STEP 1: DO NOT EAT.
