the one-handed backhand is so beautiful. him and wawrinka both. grip strength must be off the charts to pull that off the way they do. i occasionally switch to it and it's so much harder than two-handed.

ya fed's one handed backhand is the one i'm "studying". I use a single handed backhand, so he's pretty much the prototype.

as for grip strength, dno.. alot of these pros hold the racquets pretty relaxed, very loose. I hear lots of differing opinions on it. when my arm is stiff/locked on my single arm backhand, it's alot easier to get alot of power out of it.. if i have some bend, seems to be much harder to get that power.

Tennis / Tennis kind of feels like dunking..
« on: October 01, 2015, 04:59:12 pm »
weird right?

When you crush a ball, it feels "somewhat" similar to crushing a dunk. The thought of improving and crushing the ball even harder with faster racquet speed & better form, has me addicted.

There are several shots you can hit with dunk-like power:
- serve
- forehand
- backhand
- overhead

The obvious difference is that i'm always up against an opponent (practice partner etc). So when you crush a ball on them, it's kind of like getting an in-game dunk :f

t-dub-esque tennis serve?

Finally, a big plus.. chix luv tennis.  :highfive:

I imagine my training will become "mostly lower body dominant" again. I'll need lots of lower body strength for tennis, as well as lots of shoulder/back/hip PREHAB, and bodyweight exercises (upper/lower). So, my training should resemble my dunk days somewhat, just more upper and more prehab to protect the smaller muscles involved with hitting.

One possible biproduct.. my hops will go up: getting leaner, in serious shape, and getting those lifts up. If/when I jump, I'll probably still focus on single leg instead of double leg.

word, pc.

so my racquet journey in 1 month:

I started playing with my dad's old racquets (wilson six-one 95 16x18). Turns out, the grip is too thick and I think that's what wrecked my pinky (5th metacarpal), probably on the verge of trigger finger. The head size is pretty small, but that gives you alot of control. That didn't bother me much. I think the grip on this particular racquet is "3/4th".

Then he let me hit with his new racquet (wilson blade 104). This felt better, and has a bigger head, so I liked this racquet.. but the grip still felt too thick ("1/2").

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Wilson_Blade_104/descpageRCWILSON-B104.html

He then asked his friend to let me try the "babalot pure drive 107", 1/4th grip:

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babolat_Pure_Drive_107_2012/descpageRCBAB-10711.html

I tried that today.. hit so well with it right off the jump. Grip is thinner than the other two racquets. I feel like I have much more control.

So, being a tennis noob, I didn't realize such small differences in racquet measurements could feel so much different. I think i'm going to stick with the babalot pure drive 107" for now.

dno just felt like posting that.
