Mate props for posting the video. I can potentially see two issues. I went and tried to implement these fixes myself to get a better understanding and failed 5 in a row before I gave up and came back to the keyboard. Still...you are shooting your legs out instead of under you. You have no chance if your legs are going parallel to the floor instead of folding under you as soon as possible. You'll find once they hit the ground it's a matter of just getting the under enough to sit up and you're there. The other thing I remember doing when I was learning the movement was to get a slight drop before exploding (stretch reflex) which helped get some extra explosiveness. Like a paused squat vs a normal squat. Other than that you seem to be doing everything pretty well. Also, as well as pushing with your arms you may need to push with your head as well once your arms have left the ground. Sounds minor but definitely helps

i'm probably still kicking too much forward most of the time, and i'm not throwing my upper body forward enough. there's some kind of block, i barely come up from parallel with the ground, hence banging my back. i can't figure out how/when to throw my arms forward.

will post video once i get it.

Mate you inspired me to get back into them (https://www.instagram.com/p/BT-TBRagmo-/?taken-by=pretty_fly_for_a_life_guy and you may be overthinking it. Btw, arms really don't come forward as you use them for every ounce of help. I realised I use my head too for extra push off. I'll try a no hands one in a few days and see if I can get it.

*edit- I kinda feel like I'm hassling you with the kip up stuff. Let me know if I am and I'll back off.

I'm expecting Draymond to completely lose his shit again too. He's been close a few times already.

ya.. I don't think BOS/WAS has much of a chance vs CLE either.

i think we'll all be happy though when it's GSW / CLE facing off again.. that should be a real series.

remember 2016....... THE BLOCK?!

I still remember that like it was yesterday.. what an amazing series & amazing finish... and amazing forum thread.

I remember watching that live (in my office while working) and being up and out of my seat. Just incredible.

Haha yeah the thread was epic.

So how many games do the spurs take from GSW?

1 :/

Yeah I think you're right.

Now I just wish Boston and Washington would get on with it so we can move on.

felt a little bit of progress on kip-ups but i'm still not close to landing one. it'd really help to have some live coaching and a mattress. banged my back after a bunch of reps and it gave me a headache. stopped and moved on. just keep grinding, i'll get it eventually.

Where do you think you're going wrong with these? You should post a video (even though you probably don't want to).

Sounds like it was a fairly heated game but that's good coz it usually means the game is competitive. Good luck for the Finals!

Haha yeah it was heated but not really competitive. We won by 22 and were up by more than 10 for most of the game. It was heated due to the refs letting way too much contact go and guys getting upset over it...me included. I always tell myself to shut my mouth and just carry on before games but sometimes it gets the better of me.

Just looked at those devices and I'm not sure I could ever bring myself to wear one. Even if it was a direct fix.

I also find that posture is connected emotionally as well. When I'm confident, feeling good and well dressed my posture is impeccable. When I'm lazing around or tired or emotional then my posture is crappy.

Played ball last night. Final game of the regular season. We finished second and have potentially two finals. We've qualified with a few good players so our finals team will be stacked and we should win pretty comfortably if they all play. My game last night was ok. Hadn't run much in the last 3 weeks and the hands were a bit rusty but came good. Tons of rebounds and a few points. Got into a few arguments and there was some push and shove but it's all part of the fun. The best part is the guys who were doing it were nearly as tall as me but half my size which made it a bit easier on me. Body has pulled up really well with only minor soreness which is nice too. I'm planning on playing even less next season with only 1 in every 3-4 weeks at best and getting back into martial arts (for the 75th time). Will still play to keep my finger on the pulse and we also just got a portable ring at home so will actually be able to shoot around more often than once every 2 weeks right before I play.

That sucks about the dog but like you said hopefully it gets a 2nd chance at life. It's also lucky that it was you that the dog attacked and not your kids. I got bit in the face by a dog when I was a toddler and that always made me scared of dogs when I was a kid and you know dogs seem to have this sixth sense of detecting nervousness and then going after it...I definitely wasn't a fan of dogs when I was a kid but I grew out of being scared of them when I was around 10.

Thanks mate. That's the first thing I thought about too. If it was one of the kids it would have been across half their face. I'll have some scarring too which suits me fine but wouldn't be ideal for my wife or kids.

Yeah they sense fear very well. My daughter is still a bit flighty but she's getting better.

On the same page! Will help my post play a ton not having wiry arms. Idk why I never stopped to reconsider the 'train the biggest muscles' back/legs myth but someone with my build can def put on 2.5kg of mass on there and i plan to do just that.

Is that a myth? Not sure how much functional use you can get out of slightly bigger arms since arm muscles are proportionally way smaller than leg and torso muscles. For basketball specifically though. I don't really know the rules of basketball but in frisbee you can't stiff arm people and can only box out with your body so that takes out a lot of the benefit of having larger arms. Don't really see larger arms carrying over to athleticism either.

Really curious to see thoughts on this because I don't do lifting for arms except shoulders but it would be a thing to throw in occasionally if it does carry over to sport. Also, do people do any sort of more low-rep strength/fiber recruitment lifting for arms? My buddy who's a bodybuilding coach said people generally don't do that because the muscles are smaller and tear easier

You'd actually be surprised how much upper body strength matters in basketball. Especially for play in the key, mainly the tussle for rebounds and holding position. I played last night and the amount of times arms get tangled when vying for position when a shot goes up is immense. I had both arms being held during most contests last night. Now you might just say it should be a foul but most refs let that stuff go and it's the stronger player who comes out on top.  Another factor is holding onto the ball during plays. I know that I'm far better when the upper body is strong than when I'm just doing mainly lower body work.
