Hey man.

I'm doing a research project based on 'rear/mid/forefoot strikes' in running, we have access to all kinds of cool video analysis/force plates/emg stuff...

I need to think of some kinda specific things to do the study on and know you're into this kinda thing so any ideas?

cool! i dno.. i've always wondered about 'forward vs backward' variations of depth drops/jumps. maybe that would be interesting? ie, off of a low box (~12-18"), some key differences between depth drops, depth jumps, and stiff leg (double) rebounds dropping off the front or dropping off backwards. I've used these variations myself and prescribed them to more advanced athletes when I worked at MSC.. the backward variations are intense and really load up your calfs/hams and achilles much more significantly, from feel.

not sure if anyone has measured that. perhaps it would be somewhat unique/interesting?

that's my first idea.. if i think of anything else, i'll let you know.

^^ also maybe some kind of measurements of stiff leg ankle hops, with someone who would be fairly skilled in performing them (high jumpers). I don't think there's too much research on SLAH's, but I find them very effective at improving triple ext, strengthening the VMO, and improving reactive strength. They are intense though.

decent suggestions? or looking for something else/more info?

pc gulk!

bw = 174
soreness = legs, calfs, hips, back, quads, forearms.. HEH!
aches/injuries = none, hand was good today!

i've been doing LOTS of stretching.. havn't been journaling it, but, i think now i will... i'll just put a headline of "stretching" to indicate that I stretched. It's really helping with tennis.. feeling REALLY loose, getting lots of pop on my shots without muscling anything.

Session:

tennis:
- 2 hours
- best hitting yet
- finally able to generate top spin on demand
- shots are becoming less flat, obviously with my new focus on top spin
- moving around was a bit uncomfortable but you wouldn't be able to notice it, if you were looking at me.. typical body wrecked but able to move fine.

there were several backhands I had to chase down and "dink back" because I had no leverage.. but, this is a reason I want to develop my left. I'm a natural lefty, so, I should be able to hit those shots with my left, if I need/want to. It's been a slight focus of mine to develop my left, but, I really need to focus MORE on it. It would be a significant weapon if I could turn a weak retreating/reaching backhand into a powerful forehand. I might run tonight, then go work on my left-only.

I should work on my left every night HEH!

will fill in more later.

Session:

lefty tennis
- 1 hour

Session: Stretching
- throughout the day
- lots

sore.

was looking for an old vid, a vid of me shooting lefty and righty.. couldn't find it, but i found this (so I made it public):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GOkkEodDNo

forgot all about that video.. At the time, I didn't like how it came out. but looking back, I finally enjoy it. I was attempting to match up some vivaldi to some freestyle dribbling, which I imagine is crazy difficult.. anyway, I like some of the stuff in there. Also, looking back, that was some serious fun.. it also reminds me of how lucky I am to be alive, doing crap like that alone, in the middle of nowhere, at ~2AM and such at night. I almost paid for it with my life during that "one event".

finally.. I miss my nike zoom waffle racers, so much. I love my NB xc900's or whatever they are, but, still no comparison to NZWR.

i know a few people on here have freestyling vids.. if so, post em!

I have these nylon strings.. I hate having to adjust them, it's annoying.. so, did a little research; co-poly strings seem to be pretty popular now. My dad actually has them on his old racquets, the ones I originally were using when I first started. Those strings seem sooooooo much better than what I have. Apparently, they also give you ~20% more top spin automatically, because of how they snap back into place.

I think he has these strings:

He got his racquet strung 8 months ago and they still seem perfect. Everything is in perfect alignment still and it has alot of "pop". Going to get those strings on my new racquet.

Quit my gym today. I train during working hours which in the past has been great. No early mornings, no late nights. Perfect. Only thing now is I'm busier which is great for business but bad for gym life. So, getting new membership at a gym much closer to home. Good thing is they also allow oly lifting which my gym frowns upon and they have a pool/steam room as well. I'll be training at 5.30 in the am which will be great to get everything out of the way so early then I can concentrate on the rest of the day.

Also, looking at a new program too. I've figured out I simply cannot write my own programs as I tend to not follow them anyway. Looking at one that is a mix of oly lifting, normal lifts and upper body gymnastics stuff. Kind of like crossfit but more structured and without the crazy high rep metabolic stuff. If I look at all my goals and training I basically want to be strong, explosive and look like I'm strong and explosive whilst having some endurance to back it up. If a training system can get me here it's pretty much going to satisfy all my requirements for playing basketball, training hapkido or whatever else I want to do. Let's hope this is the way to go.

you find any program candidates?

Holy crap i want to squat 405x3 so badly. 360x3 gave me a tested 405 max. So 405x3 should put me at 445lbs. I want to get there at a bodyweight of 195lbs. Thatll be a 2.25x bw squat. I hope to be there in a year.

I should get my bw down to 187 currently. Havent weighed myself in a while. Here's where i want to be:

January - 360x3 at 187lbs
June - 385x3 at 190lbs
January - 405x3 at 195lbs

I may hit my goals much earlier... But i always guess that yet ive been stalling for years lol.

nice!

january 2017, 405x3 @ 195?

Just signed up for a ride along next week so I can experience police work before i get too involved with the hiring process. Even though an injury took me out of Corrections, the more I saw current CO's looking fat n gross and just sitting there twirling their thumbs all day the less I wanted to finish. I have a feeling that if I get into police work, mentally I will keep telling myself I have to be in the best shape that I possibly can.

pretty cool.. just from the thought of it, police work sounds more fun than CO.
