You know what I never understood? How you guys don't have a mandatory ID in the USA? Here in Romania, everybody has one at the age of 14. You renew it every 10 years or so.
There it seems people are unidentifiable unless they have medical insurance or a driving license or something.
Here, you just take your ID, to go the voting poll, vote, and go home. That's it. Nothing to fuss about.
ya i dno.. i mean sure everyone should have one, that'd be ideal. I have no problem with that. I guess the problem is, lots of old people don't have them.. same with lots of poor people, and even very young people who don't drive etc. So I mean there are reasons why people don't have ID. Also, you hear lots of stories like, "you need ID to get ID".. so there's also a group of people here that have problems getting ID. i dno I recall it being a few million eligible voters don't actually have ID.
So I guess the real problem is, these voter ID laws are being implemented BEFORE the transition to everyone having an ID. ie, just out of nowhere, you can make people ineligible to vote. If say, you had some 4-8 year plan to make sure everyone has ID, and then you enacted such laws.. it would make more sense IMHO. But to just out of nowhere implement these voter ID laws which apparently, disproportionately effect poor & elderly, it's really just a ploy to make it harder for dems to vote, is the argument from the dems. That, in combination with shrinking the amount of polling/voting stations dramatically, makes it harder for people to vote in general.
democrat or republican, doesn't matter to me. They just need to make sure that it's easier for people to vote, it's accurate, & it's fair.
these closed primaries piss me off. I'm an independent, i'm not a democrat.. yet I have to change my party affiliation to Democrat, to vote for an Independent who is running as a Democrat. Think of the bullshit in that paragraph.. HEH!
