Mixed Martial Arts / Re: The Conor McGregor Thread

I'm thinking maybe it's just a big middle finger to the UFC after the arguments over his choice of location for his training camp and not doing any pressers in the lead up to UFC200.

ya that's what it is looking like:

so i'm officially moving to pakistan, probably at the end of may/beginning of june. signed the contract yesterday. today i agreed with my boss that my last day in my current job will be may 4. so i'll have most of may off to relax, visit people, pack up my seven years' worth of stuff, and put in storage everything i don't throw out or ship to islamabad.

whoa congrats. sounds like a huge change, actually moving there. what's the longest you've spent outside the U.S.? several months iirc.

well, this thread may come to an end earlier than expected..

conor is retiring?

http://thebiglead.com/2016/04/19/conor-mcgregor-retirement-announcement-ufc/

if you retire after watching a fighter die in the ring, I don't expect you come back from that.. that basically means you've just had all of the fight shaken out of you.

is it my lying eyes, or does spence have just the weest bit of gyno going on there? roidy roid roids, anyone?

damn dno, hope not. i suck at identifying that stuff.

your goal should be 48" running vert. four feet. do it.

that'd be psycho.. he's already been pretty close to that.

comprehensive testing ftw ^^

those hanging leg raises are actually pretty impressive.. 24 hanging from pullup bar? to me that's pretty beast.

Have still been jumping, doing deadlifts here and there. Still planting LR, tried RL today, bothered my left knee a bit, so am gonna stop. I feel like I need to work on 1 or 2 step jumps to properly work on having a long penultimate step. On a full approach, I'm trying to have a long penultimate step, but I'm doing this weird thing where I make my 2nd last step long, bu then my penultimate step is short. Maybe I'm still quad dominant?

dno if one can say just because of the length of those last two steps whether it's quad dominance or not. at least I don't know, that's for sure.

it's something you can play with during warmup jumps etc... but when you go max effort, that stuff is pretty hard to change. I never really tried to change it when I was actually going max, only thing I thought of was getting more aggressive (in general and in my runup), and jumping harder + aggressive arm swing.

in general, with pretty much everything, the less you have in your mind when performing something @ max effort, the better. you basically want to just go all out and lose yourself. This is what happens when we have those occasional amazing jumps in a pickup game for example, where we just aren't thinking at all, yet get up so good, unexpectedly. The more thinking you do during a movement while going max effort, the worse the outcome, usually.. (in my opinion).

not embarrassing, lots of room for improvement. If you can turn those ~10s (which sound close to ~9.Xs already? into ~8.Xs, those would be decent times. Obviously they aren't 6.Xs/7.Xs but you're not a sprinter. That'd be some good stuff.... also your legs seem pretty toasted right now ;f

routine looks like a great transition. those track days are going to get you beasting out. can't wait to see what happens when you phase in those ME jumps after a while.

also what kind of shoes are you doing the track work in? it's times like those that I absolutely love my XC flats.. feel so light and springy in those shoes. ;f

Imagine Yao Ming with Guy Dupuy's 59 inch vert. Wait... wh... what... 59... 59 inches?...

i imagine they just re-print what the athletes tell them. if Guy had a 59" rvj, at his height, he'd be bumping his sternum on the rim. :f

At least you look like a programmer in that pic. You know, the kind of skinny-fat & actual fat guy that sits in a chair all day long.

Now you're AnorexicProgramia™ :P

ya now i'm just a beast who programs, good point. :F

legs felt a bit drained today, so decided I wasn't going to jump. Then jr mentioned the Boston Marathon took place today.. so I figured i'd do something i've wanted to do for a while, run to the beach and back.

from the swamp, to the beach, back to the swamp.

(I live right near the everglades).

bodyweight before: 152 lb
bodyweight after: 145 lb

total distance PR: 25.51 mi  :personal-record:
- previous max total distance run in one day, ~15 mi
- previous unofficial distance run when I boxed: ~22 mi (measured with mapmyrun, so, not as accurate as garmin.. could have made errors with measurements etc, so F that stat).

 :ibrunning:

run to beach (literally to the ocean):
- 13.06 mi in 1h:40m:41s
- calories: ~1,617
- pace: 7:43 min/mi
- speed: 7.8 mph

- lots of small elevation changes! apparently this route to the beach has lots of level changes, and some big bridges etc.. so I got my first taste of going up & down:
- min elevation: -3 ft
- max elevation: 16 ft

- LOTS of street crossings.. worst one was when I had to stop for a few minutes when a train went by.

splits:
- nearly every split under 8 min/mi! only two slightly over 8 min/mi

actually happy about that ^^

- chilled at the beach for ~15 minutes or so.
- walked ~0.5 mi to publix to get some coconut water and a small coffee, thinking it might help prevent any potential cramping... I should have just drunk some water.. that stuff actually gave me stomach discomfort. HEH!

run home (beach to swamp):
- 12.45 mi in 2h:01m:42s
- slow, didn't push it
- also was trying not to fully cramp up
- felt decent though.. quads/calves/feet started getting a little tired
- pace: 9:46 min/mi
- speed: 6.1 mph

during my run, I saw some basketball courts I had forgotten about.

Food

10 PM

- 2% milk

Food

11:30 PM

- beef + chili bean soup
-- I love this soup, I get it from whole foods.. worth trying.
- tons of blue corn chips + fresh hot salsa
- some watermelon

Food

4 AM

- greek yogurt
- grape fruit juice

feel pretty good.. legs/feet a bit achy.. quads tired.. right hip flexor a bit achy.. overall feel good though.

got alot of programming done tonight. fixed the errors from yesterday. need to write a small library tomorrow, just something simple to support json instances for Date in purescript.. so I imagine: purescript-date-json-helpers. Need to get that done before I can move on with the purescript-interop-prime library.

gn!!!!
