Article & Video Discussion / Re: form check: squats
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:45:59 pm »
There's no front or back angle, so I can't be sure, but I think you need to focus more on keeping your knees out. The way they shoot forward when you hit the bottom position is what is giving me that feeling, your hips just need some more space to get that deep.

Another thing that isn't necessarily an improvement, but may help you squat heavier is to think about squatting with your hips. Yours is looking quite close to what Rippetoe would call a "standing leg press" at the moment. It looks like you start the movement with the knees, instead of with the hips.

Looking pretty damn solid overall, though. Pretty much all my criticisms don't apply if you are doing high bar.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / 400m training and lifting
« on: August 11, 2012, 09:28:05 pm »
Yo, figured I should make a return here at some point, might as well make it a question.

I've been interested in getting into 400m running. Actually, I guess that's not quite what I mean. Rather, I've recently felt like getting both faster and fitter, and figure that the 400m is the best all-round metric for to measure both of those facets simultaneously.

So I've been reading a bunch about how people train for the 400m, and it is more complicated and overwhelming than even I'm used to in regards to training methods. There's special endurance, speed endurance 1, speed endurance 1, MaxV, accel, yada yada yada. All that is clearly far beyond what I need right now, given that I suck at 400m. So, what I'm asking is what are the basic things you recommend for a person at a fairly regular level of fitness to start improving his 400m time while not forgoing continued strength gains?

Now that you know the proper way to squat, I expect you people to conform and adjust.

I like how at 0:26, they call him MaruIce Greene. At least spell his name right.

US sucks at any sport because the best athletes play football or basketball, for the most part

i hope you're joking.

Look at US performance in athletics. The man is just telling the facts as they stand. I mean, first and third in long jump and second in 400m is pathetic!

That site needs a major redesign and readability isn't working. Will attempt to read despite eye pain.

^fixed .. still not 40s.. still happy to be getting repeated high 30s while on a daily squat schedule.. but would have been nice to catch 40s on vid.

It's funny watching your jumps and frank yang's next to each other.

Yeah, I think you'll totally kill 40" with some rest/peaking/priming. Especially if you also get some practice effect in.

The video is private. I can't wait to see how much power is going to those huge jumps of yours!

I notice you bounce a little in the bottom of your squat before really going for the concentric. Do you think that that maybe negates a bit of what makes paused squats so effective?

Today I jumped out of a plane at 13,500 feet. No workout.

I take it your parachute worked.
