MOVIES & ENTERTAINMENT & SHeeT! / Icarus- Netflix
« on: October 30, 2017, 07:48:24 pm »
Has anyone seen Icarus? I watched it a couple of weeks back and then listened to Bryan Fogel on the Rogan podcast. So incredibly fascinating. The absolute control that they had over the athletes and they doping program is unbelievable. I mean I know professional athletes use PEDs. After watching this and listening to the interview I would pretty much doubt if any athlete is clean.

Man, if true then that's a hell of a 10k time. You sure that's not on a bike though haha. The only suspicious thing for me is the HR? Avg of 124 at that pace over 10k?

That's the first thing I noticed too. Surely it's too low? That or the crappy treadmill heart rate monitor isn't reliable.

Speaking about low heart rates... i've stumbled upon something weird. I like to "analyze" runners efforts on strava - to learn something from them. Well, for some of the fast local people around here, i'm just perplexed. Some of them are running 5:0X-5:2X per mile over 5k, so 15:XX-16:XX 5k's, with HR's at ~125 BPM or so. To me that's insanely low. So then I look at another race a few months earlier, and the HR's are ~165 BPM, at a slightly slower pace. That made me do a double take.. I find that extremely odd. I know nothing about PED's, but that's the first time i've really wondered if people are doing them. Also, this happened for 2 people, who are "friends". Doesn't bother me any, just find it interesting. I wonder what someone's stats would look like if they just got on EPO or something. Or maybe they just had a serious tail wind, that'd probably be a legit explanation. FWIW, they are also fast with a more normal HR, just not as fast as this bigger 5k race with an incredibly low HR. I personally don't get how someone who is "near PR level" for a 5k effort, could run 3 x 5:0X miles, with such a low HR. I'd expect someone's HR to be that low, if they are used to running 4:2X per mile, and are trotting the 5:0X..

As for Mutumbo's friend, that's a fast pace for sure. I imagine that HR could be legit for a treadmill run, the treadmill itself does alot of work. I'd imagine it would be higher on a road/track run.

Never thought about the EPO thing for recreational runners but then again why not use? I know a dozen guys at my gym who aren't that big but are recreational lifters and use steroids regularly. Even posting their "juicy" pics and workouts on IG as if no one can figure out that terminology. Runners are ego and numbers driven so it would not surprise me at all if they were using. I would go as far as to suggest that some runners are more ego driven than the vainest of bodybuilders out there.

Would it be accurate to say that the fitter/more elite you are the closer to your max HR you can run? Therefore if you're doing 3m/k's for distance and only have a HR of 124 then you would potentially have plenty of upside???

Watched 'Wonder Woman' because it got a 7.8 ranking on IMDB.

Definitely not worth that high, wasted my time.

I give it a 4.9/10.

C'mon it's as good as any of the other overblown superhero movies.

I didn't mind it but also watched it with my 5 year old daughter who couldn't be more happy that there's finally a female superhero. Now we just need Black Widow to get her own movie and we'll all be happy. Both me and my daughter.

So much for bench and squats :( One of my friends is going through a divorce so I spent the past couple of days (after work) just hanging out with him and drinking. I didn't end up making it to the AA meeting this week. It's like my whole fkn life revolves around alcohol. I fkn hate it.

In other news one of my rugby team mates posted this:

"Everyone posting their little fitness story's so thought I would get in on it . Here's my warm up from this morning .I do this twice a day!". He's not the fastest in the team but he's definitely one of the fittest so I believe he would actually do this.

Sucks about your mates divorce. I've been there as the consoling party when they just want to sink beers and drown their sorrows. Hard to not do it with them too.

From what I saw the CLE v BOS game was pretty interesting. I especially loved Rose guarding Irving and going at Irving on the other end. Also D Wade's block in the last few minutes and then his oop to Bron. How many times have we seen that.

Also, does anyone know what was with Horford? He was getting might worked up there and I think got a tech foul for his troubles.

TIME TO PULL MY HEAD IN AND START EATING/TRAINING/ABSTAINING FROM ALCOHOL!!!

This week was a waste training wise. I'm fkn sick of drinking alcohol and feeling like shit the next morning as well. I'm thinking of deactivating my social media (facebook) as well because I just waste too much time on it. As dumb as it sounds I think it also gives me a bit of anxiety. I just want to start living a simpler life free of drama and just get back to the essentials.

I feel you mate. I'm in a similar position where I feel like I'm waiting so much time on shit that doesn't matter. I'm also very bad at dealing with injuries so have been drinking more than usual and eating worse than usual the last 2 months. Not a good combo.

Now that you've put it out there though, just got and do it. Get off the grog and start putting in the work. You can definitely do it.

I love the concept but do hope it's more competitive. Like the 80's and 90's games used to be.

Send the OLY shoes to me, I will give you $20 for your time and pay shipping :)

Do you wear size 10? and are they in okay shape?  :trolldance:

Eh...no. Haha. I never say never to squatting in them again.

man i've had some horrible nights trying to sleep lately too.. was actually going to create a thread on it a few days ago, i'll do that now.

27/09/17
5am

Banded scap work, Ido squat 2.0, HF & Piriformis stretch, monster walks

Squat (no oly shoes, sleeves or belt)
Bar x 5, 60 x 5, 80 x 5, 5, 5

Machine Chest Press – enough to get some blood in the chest

Stretching x 20 mins

Going to ditch the oly shoes for the time being. I initially got them cause I thought they’d be a good idea, give me extra depth, stability, etc. In reality I think they are causing more harm than good. Depth is really no different with the shoes vs without them. Not sure if a mental issue, core stability issue or what the go is.  If anything I get less hip/glute involvement and more quad which has been an issue for me.

Needing to invest more time in stretching as per the goal for this time when I’m limited to what I can do. Got some good work in today but not really structured yet.

ya that's why i loved elevating my heels, even for halfs. i was all about quad dominance for RVJ.  it's something to worry about though for sure, since it's not really "natural", it's introducing something that's changing our joint angles so, now i'd personally try to avoid it for running and such. Plus I feel like it can also tighten up the achilles a little, which is scary.

Yeah I think it's a bad combo for squatting and running. It took a harder toll on my hips as well than I would have expected.
