Basketball / Are pro bball players BADLY strength trained?
« on: January 02, 2017, 10:01:08 am »
Everywhere you look, NBA trainers are training players to bulk up for upper body with so much bench, rows, shoulder etc and also a lot of core workout, but they do like no lowerbody workouts.  Dont get me wrong, that's good, but wtf, some of these guys have flamingo legs and really can't get up unless they have a good running start.

It's like the trainers think these guys have enough leg work outs from all the running or afraid squats will injure or hurt their knees.

Does anyone know any pro players that actually try to build explosiveness with barbell squat, deadlift etc, other than body weight stuff?

Even if I limit kcal, just keep getting blubber around the waist.  Is it due to stress?

asians have good calves.  that's it.  the reason is probalby because they walked the great wall of china so much that they develop such good calves.  i barely need to do calf raises and my calves just explode.  but asians ahve the worse ratio for jumping.  and have dinosaur arms.

Strength, Power, Reactivity, & Speed Discussion / kind of dissappointed
« on: August 27, 2013, 09:06:50 am »
So I have been playing a lot of bball last 2-3 weeks, therefore I have been squatting a lot less.  Today, when I was squatting, when I got up to 275 which is pretty heavy and it used to be not that heavy, during 1/4-1/2 squat, under my knee cap i started to feel this pain/discomfort, like my knee might give out, but the pain goes away at the bottom where i would pause, then when i go up the pain comes back at around 1/2 all the way to 1/4.  I have never really felt knee pain like this before, like there is some kind of irritation right under top of knee cap at the 1/4-1/2 position.

Being strong will inevitably make you heavier.  In a game like basketball, a lot depends on speed + elevation.  When you are heavier than others, you can pick and choose one or the other, you can't have both, which is why lebron james is such an amazing athlete.  I have realized that when I am running in at 100 mph, i can't get up at all, but if i do a jump stop, i can get some elevation.   So should i get real skinny and sacrifice strength?

Also, having flat foot or fallen arch, is that why it is hard for me to get reactive strength, like SLRVJ?

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know what race and ethnicity/cultural background everyone is.  I'll go first: I am Asian-pacific Islander... of the Han Chinese descent.  According to one site, the ppl with the most fast twitch muscle fiber is ppl of west african descent (100m dash, nba, nfl, etc)  with eastern africans have the most slow twitch muscle fibers (eithiopian marathon winners, etc).  Everyone else is in between.

I have so much fat, skin and water weight that it kind of acts like a parachute when I run.  I have so much fat that my belly is kind of like dumbo's ears.  When I wear compression suit, I think my RVJ increases immediately.

Lately, i bought some resistance bands on ebay for just $18.  They are 50lb resistance which is perfect.  The reason is b/c the have aesthetic flaws like chalky surfaces etc...

I realize that it has helped me in getting the 90% + RM weights up smoother and faster.

Regarding front squats, it is great for jumping posture and lower back strength.  The toughest part with front squat is keeping a solid lower back, it is a lot easier on the quads.

Regarding the RVJ, i do a lot better with a SVJ or 3 step RVJ then a true RVJ.  Not sure how those blacks (mostly) like tdub or jusfly just runs up there jumps 50+inches.  they must have kangaroo genes.
