I have had the same things happen to me while jumping several times with continued pain. I have a knee condition called bipartita patella. This means that my knee cap is in two pieces instead of 1 fused patella. I was diagnosed with this in high school and have suffered ever since then. I have avoided alot of sporting activities and lifting for a long time. I have recently got back into strengthening and basketball. The pain has come back just as before. I recently saw an orthopedic Dr. and xrays confirmed that the bipartita patella is still the same...not fused....this coupled with a weight bearing activity like jumping and or bending at the knee can cause this 2 part knee cap to rub together and cause pain under the knee. This isnt the only thing that I have uncovered with my problem. I have been getting deep tissue massages on my legs including and focusing on my IT Band. I have alot of pain and tension in the lateral leg. I mean extreme pain in those tendons with deeper pressure. I believe that this along with some other muscular tension, leg flexibility and leg weakness is contributing to my pain and or my knee giving out. I am trying to get the legs stretched out, strengthened and massaged. I am also doing some PT soon so will see what they say. I would get an Xray to see if you may be 1% of the population that has bipartita patella and go from there. Good Luck
