so i have exams coming up soon, but every time i go to revise i can never concentrate end up doing 10 minutes of scimming through stuff taking nothing in...and i really need to do well in these exams haha...

is there any foods/diet types/supps that are good for concentration/focus?

sounds ridiculous but worth a try you never know someone out there might credit there whole bunch of academic achievements to some food no ones heard of before!

i saw them 'FOCUS FOOD' bars or something on defrancoes and they claimed it made guys want to actaully go and study...wuuut!? lol

i tried doing this. just focus on your own man

The best way you can focus is to give yourself a very specific task like a worksheet or reading something specific.

Best way to study is probably to find things online; wkshts, notes, etc; summarizing what you should know and you going after it.

Your mind needs very specific instructions. If i told you to go and to the grocery store and go get some groceries. You would be asking me all kinds of questions like what foods, how much food, what brand, etc. If instead i said get 2 red grandma apples, a half gallon of organic valley 2% milk, and 2 snack sized hershey chocolate bars, you would be able to go get it with out worry.

Now your job is to do the same with the studying. Give yourself tasks like this and you will comprehend.

You could also work in groups with intelligent people but not tooo intelligent.

Any foods are really just placebos, but lemons might help a little.

yeah i guessed it was just a bit gimmicky to rely on a food for enhanced brain function!

hmm i have full sylabusses with everything i need to know listed so the choosing a bit to learn each time shouldnt be a problem just got to stop being lazy and get it done no excuses!

group work = fail though for me, understand how some people would find it useful but nah im very much an individual worker when it comes to stuff like this

thanks for the reply some nice points

If you're going to need to focus don't eat heavy meats. You'll feel sluggish and sleepy. Good foods for getting ready to focus would be blueberries especially, and carbs that are lower in the glycemic index like sweet potatoes, oatmeal, whole grains.

Just don't procrastinate and keep eating instead of studying. Good luck with your exams.

Adderall, Caffeine, Ephedrine, L-Tyrosine, "Bath Salt". Supplements typically used for anti depression/anxiety could be useful too (niacin, passionflower, kava, st john's wort), but they may put you to sleep and I wouldn't mix them with adderall, caffeine or ephedrine.

Focus Food is just caffeine and l-tyrosine. You can get those in pill/powder form and not have to eat a disgusting candy bar.

spread out your're studying a lot. Pick a task like mentioned before and be specific. Study every two hours for 15 minutes, for a week straight. That will help MUCH more than cramming in 3 hours for a few days in a row.

fish makes me sick so it will have to do i guess.

what makes you think that caps are so inferior? obviously its not as natural and you loose all the other nutrients...but you still get the EPA/DHA?

Trust me, I've done my research when I was fighting a particular medical condition.

Some studies suggest the oils in fresh fish such as Alaskan salmon can be as much as 5x more effective/5x better quality than that of cod liver oil caps etc.

1. Get off the forum/internet.

2. COPY COPY COPY COPY COPY! I don't care if it's typing it on the computer or hand writing it. Just keep re-writing all you need to learn. Even if it's just main topics or bullet points. Writing it down and processing it mentally through your mind and physically through your hands is what works best.

Look, this is a horrible example but here we go. When you masturbate you don't just think about a naked girl or stare at a picture (=just read and read) and hope for the best. No, you get hands on and get busy with it (=copying and taking notes and re-doing it constantly). You add the physical part to achieve the best results.

Okay, I'm ending the awkward post here.

THis is probably late for your exams but here is my input:

So far every comment is missing the point.

Food is not placebo... food has a palpable and measurable effect on brain chemistry. Food is therapeutic in many psychiatric disorders, not to say many other diseases. THis is established.

If you have adhd, that's different from just not being able to "focus," sounds like you have something like that, chatter brain.

Someone else said all food does is similar to caffeine and l-tyrosine, this makes no sense and is overly simplified.

THe best strategies are however mental. Start relaxing and focusing your mind through some from of meditation.
Here are some dietary strategies:
-Try lowering the carbs for a day, or a meal at least. This promotes more GABA in the brain which calms it down.
- skip breakfast and start fasting, this enhances brain function tremendously
- eat meat
- chia seeds/hemp seeds or other omega-3, I prefer the plant omega-3 because they have other minerals that produce noticeable increases in focus. Fish oil is good but many products are impure
- eat clean, this means real food
- green tea
- if your brain feels too chattery, take some chamomille, or other anti-stress herbal teas like white tea, passionflower/valerian, or any blend that says "calm down" tea.
- herbs like roobois are commonly found and are good for brain, turmeric is quite potent, cacao powder as well
"Performance during stretch-shortening cycle exercise is influenced by the visco-elastic properties of the muscle-tendon units. During stretching of an activated muscle, mechanical energy is absorbed in the tendon structures (tendon and aponeurosis) and this energy can subsequently be re-utilized if shortening of the muscle immediately follows the stretching. According to Biscotti (2000), 72% of the elastic energy restitution action comes from tendons, 28% - from contractile elements of muscles.
