Could never understand what food has to do with God or religion. It is believed by muslims that everything that God prohibits is for our own good (alcohol, masochism, smoking, uncleanliness) EXCEPT for fasting. Food and water during sunlight hours of ramadan is the only thing that is prohibited not for our own good, but strictly for the love of God. However it also teaches us self-control, how it feels to be hungry and thirsty every day and thus compel us to give to those that don't have, to appreciate the food/water that we do have, and a few other things.

As long as you (whoever you are) don't try to impose stuff on other people, you're free to choose whatever you want to believe in, and that should be the way for each and every person on Earth.
