Mcgregor loves "movement training", he's also working with this Ido guy.

nice stuff

"Your body is in the same spot all the time," McGregor said. "What happens is people jump out of bed, brush their teeth, stuff their faces with food, make their way to the gym, barely warm up, do 10 rounds, go home, rest, eat, go back to the gym. You can just feel that body locking. I'm waking up and the first thing I'm doing now is spinal waves. I can actually hear it. ... It's like you're loosening the cobwebs. And it's been paying off for me."

conor is in a great rhythm right now.

I'm digging this thread man. I've been doing some yoga movements to open up my body and really get my hips mobile for soccer but this seems a lot more effective in doing that.

Any links to simple progressions? I would def work this stuff on recovery days/ use as a warmup. You  can just see the relationship he has with his body by the way he moves and even stands. Awesome athlete

I'm digging this thread man.

nice!

I love how McGregor is obsessed with MOVEMENT. It's not something you see much of in fight sports.

ya. looks more effective but i'm no yoga expert. just so much more you can do with "movement training". also makes use of alot more "dynamic" movements instead of static holds.

no idea. ido portal's youtube has a ton of stuff, i'd browse there for starters.

McGregor's prediction for the Aldo fight:

"I felt when we stared down, I felt his right hand was twitching, which was a subtle tell for me. He is ready to unload that right hand and I feel that will be a downfall for him. if he lets that right hand go, I will not be there. I simply enter the way I enter, and that is enough, they either overextend or they shrink away, but either way it is not good for them. I will create traps and dead-space inside that octagon and i will walk him into that dead space, but all of a sudden he will be in danger. We will collide in the middle of the octagon and José will fall on the first exchange" - Conor McGregor

spot on..

Ido Portal was asked by Ariel Helwani after Aldo fight what room for improvement remained for Conor regarding movement and he replied that Conor recognizes he's just a white belt but everyone else has yet to take their first class.

I read a comment on r/mma that said what makes Ido special and different from gymnastics coaches is that he focuses on teaching adults as opposed to gymnastics where they start kids from very early and don't have to overcome a lot of challenges with adults getting into the game. It's a whole order of magnitude in difficulty.
