Hi All!

Ok, thought I'd jump into the fray and see what advice I could get.  Here is my info...

AGE: 42 (yep, old guy ;)

HEIGHT: 6' 1/2"

WEIGHT: 178

SLEEP SCHEDULE: Try for 8 hours a night, but with 6 kids (3 teens) doesn't always happen

BODY TYPE: Athletic, dropped 30 lbs down to 11% bodyfat.  Could drop 4-5 lbs more

GOALS:  1- 30" SVJ 34-36" RVJ, 2- 8-9% bodyfat, 3- stay in top shape as I get even older :)

CURRENT ABILITY:
24" SVJ
26.5" RVJ (Double leg jumper)
Back Squat 1RM 350 lbs
Deadlift 1RM 370 lbs
Play advanced volleyball 2+ times a week for 2-3 hours each

INJURY HISTORY: Rolled ankles, knees can bug me from time to time, herniated and bulged disc

TRAINING HISTORY & ACHIEVEMENTS: Played competitive club volleyball for 4-5 years, lifted 5-6 days a week during that time then took 6 years off for grad school (2 masters, pretty crazy!).  Got back into volleyball and lifting about 2 years ago.  Started Vertical Mastery (props to Jack Woodrup) about a year ago with a pitiful 18" SVJ.  Work jumping/legs twice a week + volleyball twice a week and upper body workouts 2-3 times a week.  Dropped 30 lbs in last 2 years while maintaining strength.  I like trying new approaches (like resistance band-box squats, power jumper added to jump workouts, etc.)

CURRENT ACTIVITY LEVEL AND/OR TRAINING PROGRAM:  Started volleyball league about a month ago, should finish up mid-May.  Keeping training more upper body focused allowing time for CNS recovery.  I had started Vert Freak in February, I wanted to change things up a bit, but with the league, decided to slow it down.  I want to start up again in a month with a post-season workout.  I need reactive and explosive work next.  May try a round of Vertical Mastery workouts again.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF CURRENT DIET:  Generally eat clean, Intermittent Fasting 2-3 times a week on off days.

IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES:  Volleyball 2x a week.  Kids and family the rest ;)

I'd welcome any insights into what might be good workouts for an older guy...  I am always looking to learn and try new things and see how I like them :)

Hey man! I just joined the website and was looking through the intor's and saw yours. I saw that you have some herniated discs. I have had the same injury( NOV 2011), and was wondering how your back does with your workouts?

Target training paces (min/km), calculated from 5K PR 22:49 :
Easy run : 5:48
Tempo run : 4:50
VO2-max run :4:21
Speed form run : 4:02

---

it's the biggest trick in the run game.. go slow to go fast. it doesn't make sense until it smacks you in the face and you're like ....... wtf?
