Newbie Introduction

I am new to this forum and new to taking getting into shape seriously. 

Over the years (I am 33) I have tried numerous times to start a gym routine and get in shape and every time something has failed me (well I have failed myself).  Also every time, after about a week, it just got to a point where I would secretly wish for something else to come up so I wouldnt have to go to the gym.  I am a police officer and staying in shape can literally mean life or death.  At long last an opportunity like no other has presented itself and it has been better than I could have ever dreamed.

I have been training for over a month now which I know for the guys on here thats not even a drop in the bucket but for me, this is phenomenal.  I crave going to the gym, I am literally addicted to getting into the gym and getting 100% out of my workouts.  I took the route of getting a personal trainer and its worth every penny.  The value of having his eyes on you while you actually train is uncomparable.  Also just the verbal praise and motivation is everything.  I don't know how to tell him no.  He gives me a cycle to do, tells me to do it one more time, and I think I am zapped, but I just do it again. 

My goals are pretty basic.  I want to get stronger and have more endurance. 

At this point I don't have any goals in the area of lifting X amount of weight, or running X amount of distance, just more than I had the day before.  The only specific goal I have for myself right now is to lose my stomach fat.  I am 6'6" and 230 pounds.  I am pretty skinny, but metabolism has taken over, and I have a "pooch" at my belly.  I have stopped drinking alcohol, no more fast food, no more sodas, and I watch (watch not so much limit) but at least pay attention to my calorie intake and eat smart.  Not a specific diet, but don't eat junk.

The one thing I have noticed in the last month, besides lifting more weight than I ever have before, is I have gained weight since starting.  I started at 218, and am now at 230.  My stomach has not lost any of its "poochness".  I put on a duty belt everyday and I am still on the same notch, and I can still see my stomach sticking out on my t-shirts, drives me crazy.

Looking forward to reading more articles on here and my future in the gym.

In my opinion, if you still have this mentality, you shouldn't start training again. It would be a waste of time. If you don't, then welcome.

Comments: I'm considering quitting my vert journey. I just am not motivated anymore. So much money invested, so much time, so much consistent training only to see injuries, total lack of performance (I train for years to jump ~30 inches? wtf, I mean really). I have nothing to train for anymore... I just suck and that's it. There's no way of improving that. Tried to jump off two feet yesterday and today as well, I just suck hard. My body position sucks, I go forward, I can't maintain a straight back when planting, I look in the ground and so on and so forth and I can't correct all this shit. I've tried. My legs collapse when I plant due to bad body positioning... it really is effort in vain and if it's anything I HATE in this world, is wasted effort. I don't think I hate anything else as bad, not even doctors.

So yeah, I'm considering quitting all this, it makes no sense to continue. Years of training and wasted money for nothing.

BY THE WAY - I hope you people fail as well. I honestly do. I don't want you to achieve what I've been training for for years. I want you to suck as hard as possible. That will make my fail less bitter.

There was nothing negative to take away from that reply, he just mis-read or didn't read through it all, or just sucks at reading.  He didn't mean anything by it, besides the truth from what he initially understood.

Besides, if he is considering quitting his vert journey, what can you say about it when this is your first time ever training for over a month, and it took having a personal trainer to do so, while he has been able to consistently train for multiple years.

The only thing I agree with you is your comment on what Raptor said about wanting the rest of us to fail. 

Talk is small for someone who has trained for only a little over a month and hasn't even started a journal here yet.  Do work, then talk.

both their responses were funny until you tried to interject with this dumb shit.  talk is small yes, brad trains with me, hes only been training for a short time but is already a lot stronger than you at everything in the gym, so I wouldnt throw out too much advice if I were you.

Y'all need to relax. Raptor has been training consistently for 10 years in the way he can, always plagued by injuries and other problems, and yet finding time to help others and now someone on his second post on the forum attacks him for not undestanding well. I know his (Raptor) mindset is a lot of times wrong but attacking like that, c'mon. And if you want to compare verts why compare to Raptor's? Compare to mine, cause i won't even be dunking one handers if it weren't for Raptor. So when you reach svj 38" , 1 leg 45" and 2 legs 43" give me a PM. Cheers and good luck training.

Then he is definitely dedicated (I'm not ironic by the way). I mean, to actually train with a good trainer and putting in the work it already demonstrates the guy has a different mentality now.

Like I said, if he has a different mindset (and apparently he does) - then welcome. No need to be cocky about it. I actually didn't continue to read anymore once I saw that "finding excuses blah blah blah", I felt it doesn't worth it.

Hey guys.  Sorry, was not trying to start this drama.  Your right, my second post, I shouldnt be attacking anybody.  I was not at all trying to attack him on his reading comprehension, it was only about his comment about how he wished everyone else would fail.

But either way.  This is the only forum on the entire internet that I read/post on.  I just dont have time in my life to sit in front of a computer and read/post on forums.  This one has a lot of information and I like to read what everyone else is doing.  The last thing I want is to give myself a bad reputation or make a bad first impression to anyone. 

I am new to this whole BB thing.  Except for a little stint in RC Airplanes years ago, I have never used/read/posted on any kinds of boards. 

Raptor, D4 and Nightfly.  No hard feelings.

I look forward to reading more posts and posting comments here and there when I can.  But not near as much as I look forward to my next session in the gym!!!!

To steer this back towards what Adarq intented these forums for, I surpassed a record yesterday at the gym.  Dead lifting 405 after about 15 ramping sets. 

I am very happy with my progress in the gym in every area except my dead-hang pulls-ups and dips.  My long arms and 230 pound frame are just killing me on those.  BUT I WILL GET BETTER!

no, 15 ramping sets, complex he was doing when he hit 405 on deadlifts was push press x 5 and deadlifts x5 then x3 then x1.  So its like 135 x 5 push press, 225 x 5 dead, 155 pp x 5, 275 x 5 dead, ...................... all the way to 3 reps or so until speed drops of significantly. 15 sets is counting the push press as well.
