Snapping hip syndrome?

Has anyone heard of this thing? Recently when I contract my right hip there seems to be a tingling sensation in my pelvic socket around the hip flexors, and it seems like some tendon or cartilage is rubbing against a bone?

And it feels extremely tight if I push my leg (like a SL jump or horse kick) and feels like something might tear if I continue with it. It goes off and on, during fast exercise like basketball game.

Looking up snapping hip syndrome, it says one should stretch hip flexors and it band, but i've been stretching it religiously for the last several months, not sure what is wrong.

My experience with it is that it's all about femoral control. I have it on and off on the right side and this has been my go to for it:

Mine doesn't cause pain or any discomfort really so I can deal with it at my own pace. If yours is then I'd get it checked just to make sure there's nothing more sinister going on.

There was also a good post on t-nation about popping your sacrum. I do this accidentally when I'm driving mainly and it feels awesome.

My hips click all the time but not as bad as fastdoeslie is referring to but to the extent the guy in the video is mentioning about. When I straight it and bend it it always clicks but not out of place, just clicks.
Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up

to make the pigeon stretch gentler, you can use the arm of a couch or some other high platform. position the folded leg on it in the same way and move around on the plant leg to find a position where you're stretching the hip without bothering your knee. even using a big pillow under the folded leg can help.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

The prone/lying down version of pigeon can really wreck me - very risky for my knee. The standing variations can feel good, but has still proven risky for me.

This stretch is deadly for my hip, believe it or not:



I can probably go perform that stretch and F my hip up instantly.


This is the only hip/glute stretch I still do, it seems to be the safest for me. Also, instead of flexing the off knee more to bring the stretched leg closer to me, I just twist towards the off leg a bit. If I bring the stretched leg closer to me, seems more risky for my knees.





When I get annoyed that a stretch is risky for me, and try to improve that mobility/flexibility, I always get hurt. :ninja:
