Miguel Cotto vs Canelo Alvarez - 11/21/2015

I've wanted to see this matchup for some time now.. excited!

I think Canelo will take it; probably in a UD. It's going to be a tough fight for both of them, but Cotto's caliber of opponents lately & roach in his corner has inflated his head. Canelo is a MAJOR step up from Cotto's last 3 opponents.

If Canelo wins, I hope they can match him up with GGG. I heard they want Bradley/Canelo (eh) or Pac/Canelo (good).. but i'd love to see him in there with GGG. GGG might be just a bit too big for him though.

It seems like a big fight, they say it's the next biggest fight after mayweather pacquaio, probably but by a long shot, it's no where near may-pac, I didn't feel the hype of this fight that much compared to may-pac.

I think because cotto defeated martinez, who had a bad knee, which I think martinez in his prime would have demolished cotto and then cotto faced delvin and geale at catch weights, this has made cotto's head big, as you correctly mentioned, that does not show me cotto has a chance against canelo, cotto is good, he had a good sparring session. He hit's hard, but a boxer who moves will give him problem, like austin trout, bad loss for cotto.

Canelo on the other hand, in my opinion, has been progressing nicely, especially the knockout of kirkland, his fight against mayweather was really bad, he just was slow, even though they were training him to be fast, so I don't think he will have speed but he does have the angles, like when he fought lopez, he was really good.

So this is a good match up, I think canelo will win, but not knockout, cotto does fall easy.

Canelo UD12

GGG is probably too big and won't come down and canelo won't move up, so canelo will have to vacate.
Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up
-------------------------------------------------------------
Measuring reminder:
5 toe to heel steps = 148cm
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strength comes from the legs, Power comes from the torso and Speed comes from the arm. Al Vermeil
Arm also aids the legs in driving it down with power - seifullaah73

exactly.. bum knee sergio and two non-elite fighters, cotto/roach heads are inflated. I can't believe Roach and his camp are saying this fight will be easy.. if it's easy for cotto, then i'll realize I don't know much about boxing. lul.

kirkland isn't that great but he's a big threat to whomever is fighting him.. he's an "animal". That was pure domination, beautiful boxing + power from canelo. The biggest win in the last 3 fights for either guy, is definitely Canelo's win over Lara. Lara is "boring" but he's extremely skilled, a very difficult guy to fight - so elusive with decent speed/counter attacking.

ya whoever wins has a mandatory with GGG.. I think canelo has the balls though to move up. Cotto definitely doesn't want anything to do with GGG.

 :highfive:
It was insane, what an amazing fight, it was exactly as we predicted.
You definitely need to see it.

Spoiler alert

Cotto was boxing at the beginning throwing combination and was on his feet most of the time, but only a few of his punches would make some sort of impact alot of them canelo could walk through. canelo was finding his rhythm and landing his powerful punches, I knew he was not good on his feet so he was flat footed, but he is powerful and can cut the ring well and can just attack, and I loved his signature move on the night, the left uppercut i think, he would use it all the time. cotto had a good jab but that started to fade as canelo moved forward making it hard for cotto to backup and jab. cotto had moved alot in the fight. I knew it would end up like this, canelo was just getting better and better. Cotto was fading, he had no effective power and man canelo's reflex he would counter so brilliantly and his dodging and weaving at a point when just standing, man canelo was really good and then towards the end of the fight canelo was dominating cotto, roach just never did anything except for just motivate him, no new skills. Last round was action packed, canelo just let loose, cotto moving alot and was hoping for knockout but was happy with the result and the fight.

Canelo should face ggg but i don't think canelo will.

the vargas fight was intense, vargas on first round with the powerful punch that nearly toppled miura, wow the fourth round knockout from miura, he started picking it up and did really well nice combinations and punches. loving the one two punches from miura not very defensive but he is on the offensive alot vargas cannot get to him much. alot of hard hitting from miura not alot of boxing. just hard hitting, wow then vargas caught miura, miura trying to hold on but vargas just letting loose and the match was stopped.

Excellent, canelo had awesome slipping and countering like in that link and that was the uppercut i was referring to, he would use that alot as he was effective.
