a.gordon gets like ALL 50's until the last dunk, which should have still been a 50 i mean he dunked over Taco..

even if it wasn't a 50, it was how they did it that was so fucked. they deliberated that score to give it to Jones -> or they suck at math and meant to make it a tie and fucked up.

ridiculous.

people trying to play politics always fuck shit up.

just score it straight up.

like them giving howard high marks simply because of the kobe tribute.

that was such a great dunk contest & they fucked it up.

bleh.

The dunk contest judges had intended for the second round of the “dunk off” between Aaron Gordon and Derrick Jones Jr. to end in a tie.

Sigh ok...here I go....

I'm not upset that DJJ won (I'm sorry did y'all SEE that BTL off glass over Chuck????). I AM upset about that last rounds scores. Completely. I AM upset that we didn't just let two of the best contest dunkers in the NBA keep going until someone missed. I AM upset that Gordon won't do another contest (though I understand for sure).

So here's my breakdown:

Judging SUCKED as mentioned. Howard's scores for the "Superman" dunk? Hot garbage. DJJ not getting a 50 on his first dunk? Also garbage. He was looking IN THE FUCKING RIM. He was penalized for a miss ok...but later AG wasn't. So inconsistent. IMO both AG and DJJ threw down nothing but 50s. Everyone on FB is complaining about DJJs "not FT" windmill. Ok...like maybe 4 guys can do that. He's one of them. Plus he was long on the finish which showed he had air to spare. AG didn't clear Tacko clean (yea yea lemme finish) but...he finished clean even with the duck/pushoff but let's be real....dudes 7'6 in shoes. I've only seen Reemix clear anything like that and he's an alien. So that said.... All 50s. Fuck Dwade for this one and I like Wade. We need to get REAL dunkers as judges...hell Dr J, Mike, old NBA dunk contest winners or...if you wanna push these guys get Staples, Kilganon, Jclark to judge. They won't be wowed as easily.

Best dunk? Ooof. AGs off side scoop 360 was SICK BUT ... I think there's more guys that can do that than DJJs BTL off glass (both can do both fwiw...will expound later).

End thoughts: DJJ won...less misses, more technical/fluid overall (AG didnone dunk that DJJ had already done as well), but I would have been ok with it going either way. EPIC contest up there with 88, 2k, and 2016 that will be tarnished by shit judging. And I DO think DJJ has the deeper bag, more bounce and overall better dunker for this reason. AG is strictly a 2 foot jumper (for contest purposes obviously) whereas DJJ has an arsenal off 2 or 1. IE, if they keep going I think DJJ has more stuff to go to give the variety.

🤷‍♂️

Insert motivational quote here...

that was a sign of things to come. and i remember "live blogging", that could have wrecked the finals. imagine if somehow that got Dwight in over DJJ or AG.

that one i might understand as being < 50, due to the push off. massive push off. but those judges aren't looking for that, so by normal standards that's a 50 for sure.

yea even w/ AG clipping taco on the way down, that is batshit, def 50.

if they were both even up to that point, i'd say AG's dunk over Tako wins it. DJJ's windmill from inside FTL was nasty but that Tako dunk was absolutely nuts. To just go for that on the fly is completely crazy. AG is nuts.

Fuck Dwade for this one and I like Wade.

legit lost some respect for him. he did some snake clown shit. it's awful.

i could see it go either way. i'd have been happy if either of them won straight up. DJJ with the more technical elite dunks, AG with some crazy shit as usual. I loved his two hand reverse btl, you rarely ever see that. And some of those "360's over Chance" were incredible, I don't think they get enough credit -> you never see those variations.

DJJ's finishes were absolutely incredible. That length + vert is just so fun to watch.

if I had to give it to someone, i'd say AG, for two reasons: felt like he had the better "first 4", and felt like he had the better last dunk.

DJJ's btl over chuck was disgusting, but i'd put it even with AG's scoop off the side. DJJ had a "pro lobber" helping him. AG had who? I feel like that also factors in.. AG had to just get that shit done which made it so much more risky. Both dunks were incredible so, if I had to pick one, i'd go with AG's scoop because it was more difficult given the person lobbing it to him.

it's crazy seeing Chase & Chuck at these contests every year. pretty cool.

it's pretty sick to think that they are "practicing with DJJ" (and others) to help them win a dunk contest etc.

AG goes out there solo lmao.

oh and the announcers (Kenny/Reggie, then Wade) pleading for a "tie" and "stop it" really helped set up the "tragedy". like the last 3 dunks each, they kept pleading for the judges to "walk away" etc. It probably helped fuel the meltdown at the end. Just was annoying and was causing confusion.

no.. KEEP DUNKING, it's a dunk contest. AG was frustrated but he'd have kept dunking. DJJ was definitely willing to keep dunking.

Then the judges all agree to make it a tie, and Wade snakes them. I can't believe he'd do that to someone. It is especially awful because you can clearly see he took advantage of the other judges to just hand it to DJJ.

man..

Hudson's kobe tribute (during the pre-game intro) was absolutely incredible.

Common's intro + introduction of the teams was also incredible.

epic tribute & intro, so well done.
