i hope he can live up to his gifts. would be fun to watch.
tbh don't see how he can't. he's just too strong & athletic, combined beautiful finishing ability at the rim. so even if his jumper is suspect, i don't see how he can't dominate the glass.
dumb point of conversation: how do you define "generational" talent? generations are usually taken to be 20 years. so the most talented/greatest player in a 20 year stretch. right now that'd obviously be lebron, but would you call giannis a "generational" talent? he's unreal, every bit as much a physical freak as lebron just blossoming later. anyone else in the NBA in that tier? people talked about anthony davis and KAT that way but i don't think so.
well for basketball, i think you can have generational players among different positions. ie, generational center, guard etc.
unlike say, boxing, where it's pretty much just one position (a fighter). but i guess u could have several at the same time, via different weight classes.
as for Giannis, not sure if i'd put him there yet. he's incredible for sure, but I guess i've always considered "generational talents", those who not only are on another level skill-wise, but also lead their teams to victory.
so ya, when it comes to AD/KAT/Greek Freak, they need to figure out how to win. That's what makes someone like LEBRON, Curry, AI, Shaq, Kobe, MJ etc on another level. They are just so dominant that it's hard for a game not to tip in their favor - resulting in them having more regular & post season success. The league is absolutely stacked now, so it's definitely not easy. But when someone like Lebron or SHAQ comes along, they basically "unstack it", and they become the epicenter, that's how it feels to me anyway.
as for Zion, he just gives off the vibe that he will change whatever game he's in, completely. Defensively, offensively, etc. We'll see soon, that's for sure!
curry isn't generational, he's sui generis.
if he was on an awful team, i feel like he'd be more of an AI. He'd still figure out how to win. He'd probably also take more shots.
AI is a great example for me. He was just a force, as small as he was, that could lead a subpar team to victory, year after year. He really was incredible. I still remember him going up against the dynasty Lakers.. 76'rs completely outmatched, AI goes off for like 48 or something to steal game 1. On paper, PHI has no chance against that LA team. AI was just incredible. AI proved how lethal a scoring point guard could be in a "big man league".
