Hey man

glad to see you here.  :highfive:
Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up
-------------------------------------------------------------
Measuring reminder:
5 toe to heel steps = 148cm

Arm also aids the legs in driving it down with power - seifullaah73

Yup! Lots of the same faces are still here training, which is quite amazing. We also lost some faces and gained some new ones.

You're still putting up articles on higher-faster, so we've known you're still doing your thing, but how's your training going?

peace!

5 year summary of my progress since you stopped posting in 2012.

2013-
I quit playing rugby and took up track the first time since high school.
Managed to get times of:
60m- 7.45 FAT
100m- 11.37 FAT
200m- 23.15 FAT
I was in PR shape but tore my hamstring.

2014/2015-
Lost my purpose in training as I wasn't participating in any sports. Relocated interstate and spiralled into alcoholism. Returned back to my home state got a job and stopped training. Gave up training entirely and turned into a fat fuck (43 inch waist at 97kg  :() and was completely career orientated.

2016-
Realised I was living a very unhealthy lifestyle and returned to adarq.org and began training again and losing weight.

2017-
Begun playing rugby again  and continued training. Made the State team and got winger of the year. Currently I'm back to surpassing my old PR's from 2012/2013 and getting stronger every day.

What have you been up to???

Hey Kelly, awesome to have you back here.
Target training paces (min/km), calculated from 5K PR 22:49 :
Easy run : 5:48
Tempo run : 4:50
VO2-max run :4:21
Speed form run : 4:02

---

it's the biggest trick in the run game.. go slow to go fast. it doesn't make sense until it smacks you in the face and you're like ....... wtf?

Going well! Nothing real explosive though. Typical old man style training. I gotta be careful with my joints. Good to see you're still at it.

Hey Kelly, awesome to have you back here.

Great to see you're still at it Vag. As consistent as ever.

Picked up a couple new hobbies. Landscaping and gardening. It's kinda funny but gardening I learned is very similar to training. The difference is, you have more control. It's very easy to clone plants (produce identical twins) so you can take clones and run any assortment of various experiments to see what works best. This past summer I ran all sorts of experiments on tomato clones running different soil, fertilizer, amendment, combos etc.

Wow the legend and person that changed the worlds view on how to be explosive....

Thanks for the compliments man.

More on the gardening stuff: I mentioned how similar it is to training. This is kinda funny. But everyone here knows the best speed/power/vert training info comes from the Russian coaches like Verkhoshansky from back in the 60's.  If you really wanna learn that's what you gotta read, and it basically makes the last 50 years research in the U.S. amount to nothing. Problem is, a lot of people, a lot of professionals in the field, still don't know that and are never exposed to the information. A purist would argue most of our athletes in the U.S. are training in a fashion that is less than optimal because there aren't enough U.S. coaches who understand how to implement optimal training as outlined by Verkho. And I wouldn't  really argue against that point.

Well it's the same way in soil science/agronomy. The best information comes from the 40's and 50's. There was a guy named William Albrecht who was basically like the soil science version of Verkho. He was all about the mineral chemistry in the soil, particularly calcium. I'm not sure exactly what happened but at some point the U.S. fertilizer companies basically took over all the research so Albrecht, his methods, and his followers, kinda got cast aside. All the research began to focus on what the fertilizer companies had to sell, NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), and minerals were neglected.  Due to that most of the last 50 years research amounts to crap, or at least isn't nearly on par with the experiments Albrecht and his team did back in the 40's and 50's. However there are still a handful of self educated agronomists that have expanded on the Albrecht method, set up sites to download his papers, published books etc. and there info is considered by far the most cutting edge methods, just like some people do with the Russian training.

I just kinda gotta laugh out of how similar the 2 fields are in that regard.

Oh shoot its Kelly
Thanks for introducing me to Verk and all that. All these years ive been walking around with training knowledge that 95% of the people in your average chain gym lack. Training for VJ really teaches you some interesting things about the CNS and max strength. And this really is just from a couple of weeks of reading, too. The dirty work has already been done for us - just gotta read it and apply it.

Kelly,

the premise behind a VJB 2.0 app seems pretty cool.  is it going to have any other cool features or just the actual VJB 2.0? I haven't bought yet but would be more likely to buy it in app form than a hardcopy book but that's just me.

need to review all your articles.  great stuff.
