“A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more. Nobody is going to win a 5,000 meter race after running an easy 2 miles. Not with me. If I lose forcing the pace all the way, well, at least I can live with myself.”

Never heard of this guy, just read his bio. Damn, very impressive. Setting all national records from a mile up to 10000m at his early 20s, WTF. Looks like he had both the mental and the physical assets to become GOAT. Very sad that he died so young.
Target training paces (min/km), calculated from 5K PR 22:49 :
Easy run : 5:48
Tempo run : 4:50
VO2-max run :4:21
Speed form run : 4:02

---

it's the biggest trick in the run game.. go slow to go fast. it doesn't make sense until it smacks you in the face and you're like ....... wtf?

ya.. his style of just pushing it to the max from the start is really amazing, i love it.

he seemed like a mental freak.. wonder how he would have performed if he had less of that mental edge.. seemed like he was able to push himself to the absolute limit.
